A dream come true... WITH PROBLEMS!!!
My son wanted so badly this product to hack his Pokemon game. The product is good, delivering what was promised, although there are some hacks that get lost after powering down de Nintendo DS. The software installs OK on WinXP, but the instruction booklet is a bit confusing, for example: it is not clear that the Action Replay DS must be inserted in the Nintendo DS, with the cable attached to the device and plugged into a USB slot on your computer, and the Nintendo DS must be then powered on for your computer to "see" it and to enable you to update the device... Updating the codes from the web only worked from codejunkies.com website, but this worked fine.Good buy!ONE MONTH LATER UPDATE!!It stoped working!!! So I give one star to it.

Do NOT buy this Product... it MELTS!!
I purchased this DS Lite Action Replay so that I could make some slight changes to my Pokemon Platinum DS game. I will say that the disk that came with the set did install correctly, HOWEVER, when I attempted to load the DS to my PC via USB outlet, the DS would NOT connect to the PC. After just a few seconds to a minute of having this plugged into my computer I began to smell something burning. When I picked up my DS it was very hot to the touch. I pulled out the Action Replay instantly only to notice that it was melting! The Action Replay case itself now has a giant melted hole on both sides of the cartridge. Im glad I noticed it before it melted into my DS. Please please DO NOT waste your money on this product! It will not work, and do more harm than good to your DS and your games. If you still want an action replay, buy the newer version.

A powerful tool... IF you know how to use it
The Action Replay for the DS, just like all other cheat devices like Game Shark and Game Genie, is a powerful tool that modifies games in anyway you see fit. It can be something simple like Max Cash or Infinite Time, or something insanely complex like some of the codes fans have created for Kingdom Hearts II (Examples being Playing as Roxas outside of his scenario, location modifiers, etc). It's extremely useful, especially for Pokemon. To those who have given the AR a bad review:If you don't know what you are doing, or use codes haphazardly, of course you could risk damaging your game or deleting your saves. If you are going to add codes you have to be precise and careful. These codes modify the actual coding within the game. You really have to know what you are doing if you want to try making your own codes, otherwise you could have some horrible results.Example, back when I was a young, stupid kid I tried putting in a code for Pokemon Red into Pokemon Gold... this resulted in making the Ingame Phone on the Pokegear ring every single time I took 1 step.So really, Parents, if you are going to buy this for your kid be sure to let them know that the AR isn't a toy. It's a powerful tool that can be used for effectively if used right.~Hawk

There is an easy way to fix this game if it is defective.
First of all, Action Replay DS is a great product. It is inexpensive, easy to use, it comes with many codes, it is able to be updated, and new codes are able to be added. The main focus of this review, though, is that many people (who rated this product one star) claim that their Action Replay DS is defective and unable to be fixed. The defect where all data is deleted, it freezes when new codes are added, and there is not enough room to hold any data, is 100% FIXABLE.Steps To Fix It:1) Make sure the DS is turned off.2) Put action replay inside the DS.3) Attach USB cable from action replay to computer.4) Load the action replay program on your computer.5) Hold the A and B buttons together.6) While holding those two buttons, turn the DS on.7) When the DS is on the health and safety screen, hold the Start and Select button also.8) Hold those four buttons simultaneously (while the screen is white) for about 10 seconds until the action replay loads on the DS.9) Release the four buttons and your action replay is fixed.

Easy to use, but poorly manufactured
The product advertised here is a DS Lite Action Replay (ASIN: B000H5UY72). Be aware that the seller is actually giving you an Action Replay DS EZ (ASIN: B001W5O95Y), which means it is the AR that connects via to your computer via USB. None of the seller's images even indicate this; in fact the seller's images indicate a DS Lite Action Replay (not DS EZ), but it is an important difference. This product is of poor quality. Mine is dysfunctional in less than three days. The mini-USB input within the machine is poorly soldered, thus it detached and now wiggles like a jumping bean. You will never see the mini-USB input on your Nintendo DS detach, let alone in three days. This difference in quality displays how poorly constructed Datel's Action Replay DS EZ is and how cheaply manufactured it is. It has no durability.ARs are also known for damaging the game cartridge socket of your Nintendo DS due to their poor construction. The damage is MINOR if handled correctly, and if sidewards forces are not applied. Depending on the hacks or HEX values altered by the user, the saved game file can also be ruined, but this is entirely at the fault for oblivious input.Despite the major flaws in this product, it functions with Nintendo DS/Lite well, and can allows users to easily apply codes for enhanced gameplay. If you have problems with your Action Replay, the seller will readily replace your product, or if you know how to take apart devices and resolder yourself, you can amend any problems. On a side note, the instruction manual will not help much. It will direct you to insert your game into a nonexistent "pass through port." Just eject the Action Replay and insert the game cartridge after selecting the codes you want, and tap "start." A manual firmware update is necessary for some newer games such a Pokemon Black and White.
