Product Description Hunter's 5+2 Set & Save digital programmable thermostat allows you to set a different program for weekdays and weekends, ensuring your home is efficiently heated and cooled throughout the year. .com Create the ideal indoor climate for the weekend without wasting energy throughout the workweek with this Energy Star-compliant Set & Save Programmable Thermostat from Hunter. Users set the thermostat based on varying household needs for all seven days of the week, for enabling the thermostat to automatically heat up at dawn on a cold morning or to run the air conditioner for longer hours over a summer weekend. By adjusting the thermostat to operate primarily when household members are home, the device reduces wasted energy and minimizes the size of the electric bill in addition to maximizing comfort. The programmable thermostat features a filter monitor and accommodates most gas, oil-fired, and electrical 24-volt and milli-volt furnace and cooling systems. It will not work however with multi- and single- stage heat pumps or 110/220-volt electrical baseboard heating systems. Displayed on an easy to read LCD screen, the thermostat's programmed temperatures range from 45 to 95 degrees F. The thermostat also conveys the room's current temperature from 30 to 99 degrees F. Temperatures above this range are denoted as HI, below as LO. The thermostat will automatically cut off heat operation for room temperatures above 95 degrees F, while interrupting cooling if below 40 degrees F. For sudden weather or schedule changes, users may opt to temporarily override programmed settings for increased comfort. Likewise, a hold option conserves energy while the home dwellers vacation. For general air circulation, a fan switch is installed. The thermostat illuminates a two-stage indicator light to notify low batteries, while lighting a filter-change light to ensure proper and reliable functioning. Two AA 1.5-volt batteries power the thermostat and must be purchased separately. This unit requires assembly upon arrival and purchase of any necessary hardware. Hunter offers a limited one-year warranty for this product. The thermostat weighs 9.6 ounces upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

I've had the exact same one for 6-7 years now, and actually it too is still working.
I have had the same brand and model of thermostat on my central unit for at least 6 or 7 years now. As with anything over time my many years old thermostat started wearing out, and like another review I read, I began having problems with the up button being very difficult to use. The actual thermostat continued to work perfectly, as did all the other features and buttons on it. Since I've had 2 hand surgeries the up button, although it would still change the temperature after much pushing, poking, and cursing lol, I decided to replace it. I went to our local hardware store, and was unable to locate this exact brand and model, so I bought a different one that in our old house with only 4 wires on the heat and air just would not work correctly, so I ended up returning it. Luckily, I found a great company who had my same brand and model, new in stock here on Amazon. The best part was the price was less than half the price of what I paid for one at the hardware store, and I got free shipping too. At that price, I decided to actually order 2 of them so I'll have a spare to use when the 1st new one decides to croak from old age.

Simple but effective.
Note, make sure it works on your system. It doesn't support all units (I think specifically it didn't support a heat pump?) Anyway, it's a simple design and it shows in a lot of ways, but this is pretty cheap these days (I guess because it's mostly just old stock being sold off at this point) so it's a great way to go to a digital control. The programming is pretty confusing and a bit of a pain to setup, but it works. For some odd reason if you want to switch between arbitrary Fahrenheit and standard Celsius, it has to completely reset the unit. Unfortunately, it lacks a fine grained control for Celsius (at least I feel like it should have half steps since it seems to have been balanced wrong in my house -- maybe an adjustment of the interval might help, but I didn't feel like dealing with it) so I don't really recommend getting this one with that in mind as others likely do it better.Anyway, it's simple and cheap, but it gets the job done fairly well and beats those crappy basic analog thermostats.

Pellet Stove Friendly
Although our home has a central air and heating system, we have successfully used a pellet stove to heat our home for many, many years. For our purposes, much more cost effiecient and the family enjoys watching the "dancing flames". Our stove, like the majority of pellet stoves, can be operated by using a simple wall thermostat to turn the stove on and off, much like a conventional furnace. Over the years, it has always been our practice to manually turn down the thermostat each night before retiring and turning it back up the next morning. This generally works just fine except for those evenings when we forget. Additonally, on those extra cold mornings, once the stove was turned on, it would take quite some time to get the temperature up to a comfortable level. Neither of these situations is earth shattering, but as I get older, I must admit I continually try to make my life just a little bit easier. This battery controlled thermostat has done just that.I replaced an old Honeywell manual thermostat with this item, programmed it without a problem, and it has worked flawlessly for the last month. It turns our pellet stove off 30 minutes prior to retiring and turns it back on 30 minutes before we get up. It can also be programmed for up to 4 weekday settings, to accomodate your work schedule, and seperate settings for the weekend should this be a priority. It is definetly not fancy but it is inexpensive and easy to operate and we are very pleased overall.

Happy Customer
I had this exact unit for 15 years and then the up button wouldn't work. I ordered this hoping it would fit perfectly where my last unit was and it did! Super easy to install.

I wanted the lighted version and very disappointed they didn't make that clear
I bought one of these five years ago and it was reliable. However, the up button got so it was very hard to set the temperature higher. So hubby just changed it out for this model. You cannot retro fit this one over the older model, because this one is about one inch smaller on all sides. Also, despite the mention of being lighted it is NOT. I wanted the lighted version and very disappointed they didn't make that clear.

Easy to install, easy to program and use
I replaced a Hunter model 44300 that had been in our house for about 12 years or so. This thermostat is much better seems to operate a bit more smoothly. The features between the two are similar but the lay out is much different. I found it very easy to setup a week day and weekend setback profiles. This is an excellent value for the money.

Overeads the actual room temperature so have to set the programmed temps higher. No way to adjust the internal temp gauge or calibrate it.
