Meteor Showers and their Parent Comets 1st Edition

This is a fantastic book for meteor aficionados.Would not recommend it for those who are just getting started with meteors showers or someone casually interested in the subject. Book is full of information resulting from intensive research and boldly predicts many meteor outbursts. Of course, some of the predictions have much more confidence than others, but there are few, if any, other books of its kind in print. As such, it is extremely useful and valuable.Plenty of discussion of comets and meteor showers and the creation, evolution, and characteristics of meteoroid streams is given. Jenniskens also relays many personal stories in the text, and his passion for the subject is clear.

WOW! what a book this is for aspiring and experienced observers! I'm in awe. Dr. Jenniskens' new book is so chock-full of information it will take years to soak it all in. He has done a masterful job of explaining everything that goes into the generation of comet dust trails and the resultant meteor showers they spawn. That -- plus a comprehensive listing of EVERY expected meteor outburst (and their expected ZHRs!) for the next fifty years! Not just the main showers like the Leonids and Perseids, but all minor showers as well.I'm absolutely astounded by the enormous amount of work that must have gone into creating this book! It is simply an amazing work that should be in every library and on every meteor enthusiast's shelf -- because you'll be going back to it again and again for the rest of your life!(Note: This is probably not the right meteor book for youngsters just getting to know this wonderful science and hobby, however. This is a fine book with excellent content, but it is manfactured very poorly. The "hardcover" is thin and flexible, and the binding along the spine is loose. The book was delivrd with a tear where the cover meets the spine. Over all very poor quality for such an expensive book.
