The timer is easily set and stopped
About all you could ask for in a timer. The display is large enough to be read across the room. The timer is easily set and stopped. For the most part it is self-explanatory, although you do have to know how to reset it to zero. I am somewhat hard of hearing and I think this one's loud enough for even me to hear from another room. So far, I've just taken it with me. Great item.

simple, sturdy, and visible (new problems since originally written)
Our old timer with much smaller numerals began having a mind of its own - displaying random numbers wasn't helping my cookies! This one works on the same principle as older one so nothing new to learn in the electronic world. Advantage? Everything, buttons and digits, much larger and easier to see. Very pleased. My addendum (sorry it took me so long to make this addition) - the buttons are not responsive, or TOO responsive, depends on perspective. If you hit the "stop" button it is likely to stop and then start again. Sound cues (beeps) don't always indicate what has happened. I now find I have to grab the thing with two hands to steady it for stopping or starting. Not convenient in a busy kitchen! Switched from 5 stars to three - that is generous as I think I'm in the market again. Now ONE STAR. Many problems as time went by - and it wasn't much time. Big digits can't be read if all too faded. Then it fell apart - literally. Sorry if I led anyone astray with original positive review. DON'T BUY IT.

Well Designed for my Purpose
I am not a cook and I actually bought this device to use in my inversion therapy practice. The things I looked for was a large easy to read display (especially since I would looking at upside-down), easy to use controls, an audible alert when counting down to zero and a way to tilt it to different viewing angles. I just used it for the first time today and I can report that it satisfies all these needs quite well. It also has a convenient "pause and resume" feature that I find useful in my application. I personally would like a user-selectable light (or back-light) for the display but that is in part because of my age-related eyesight limitation I do not yet have a report on the electrical design in terms of its battery usage profile (especially since the display is always on), but the mechanical design and manufacturing aspects appear sound.

Meant to be seen, not heard
I'm writing this review under the assumption that a timer's main function is to alert the user that something has been completed, typically, your dinner is cooked. I purchased this in high hopes I'd be able to hear it just a room away from the kitchen. Wrong. While the unit itself is easy to set and has good sized numerals, the beeper speaker is on the back. It is smaller than a pencil eraser, and is about as loud as an alarm on a wrist watch. The magnet seems to be strong enough to hold it on the fridge, but that completely blocks the speaker, which is on the back. I guess I will just have to carry this to whatever room I'm working in, it has to be very close to hear it at all.I will give it two stars for numeral size and ease of setting, but this is a major failure as alerting device. And the price is way too high, when you see it you'll know you got gypped.

Works great but only alarms for 15 seconds then turns off
Works great but only alarms for 15 seconds then turns off, despite what the description states. I still use it, though, so I haven't attempted a return.

Ring-a-DING, DING, can you hear it now? YES, I can hear it!
Nice and loud! Excellent timer. This one can be heard from another room in the house and that is a good thing. I am not hard of hearing, but if I am into something that my mind is on something else, then I need to hear when this guy reaches its countdown. Other timers are a disappointment, but this one wins the brass ring. It is loud and it also has LARGE digits to see across the room.I have only had this one for about a week and it seems to work very well. It may cost more, but I believe it is worth it.

The timer was easy to use and had a nice loud alarm
The timer was easy to use and had a nice loud alarm. However, yesterday it fell from about one foot onto my kitchen counter. That short fall destroyed the timer. I changed the battery and did everything I could think of but it will not work anymore. It had been used less than 10 times.

checks all the boxes
5 stars means that the display is large, the digits are clear with a clean font, setting and operation is a no-brainer--no 'manual' even needed, and the alarm is loud. the only issue i had with it was that the magnet was a little too narrow and pushing the buttons rocked it side to side, but i mounted it to the wall using the built in alternate method which completely eliminated this issue. i wasted half the price of this item by grabbing one at the grocery store which was totally unusable and was trashed without regret when this one arrived. /guy
