Love it!
Our 3 year old grandson is really into cakes currently (for whatever reason - hey, who can blame him??) and let's face it, there aren't very many books out there featuring cakes. This is perfect for him and he loves to read it over and over. The illustrations are adorable and the story is silly and teaches a simple lesson; what more does any 3 year old want? He loves this book and the monsters are a great touch. Thank you Rowboat Watkins - simply silly and sweet!

Great book. Teaches a good lesson.
This is our favorite book! Super cute and has a good lesson to be learned. After renting it from the library a few times I bought two, one for us and one as a gift. Love this book.

daughter gave it 5 stars!
She gave it 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the following reasons:* she enjoyed the monsters* the monkey barsMom gives it 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because:* it’s a fun way to show the differences between rude and kind* demonstrates that there is always room to grow and change* the donuts and the cake (and the cyclopses!) are adorable* would definitely read it multiple times to reinforce positive behavior by showing how negative behavior is harmful

A fun way to teach manners!
This was the first book I purchased by Rowboat Watkins (I have since bought several others) and was initially drawn to the creative title, "Rude Cakes." As the title eludes to, this book is about personified cakes, one of which, is particularly rude. The first half of the book shows Rude Cakes in various situations in which he is not using his manners. For example, he doesn't say please or thank you, he doesn't share or wait his turn, and he never apologizes. About halfway through the book, the reader is introduced to a giant cyclopes that, contrary to Rude Cakes, have very nice manners. The cyclopes puts the cake on his head and wears him as a hat, much to Rude Cakes dismay. For the next several pages, the Rude Cake is screaming that he is not a hat, but the cyclopes are not noticing him or paying attention to him. Finally, Rude Cakes yells, "PLEASE!" and the cyclopes stops and takes Rude Cakes off his head because they always listen when their hats use their manners. In the end, Rude Cakes learns to change and starts to show his manners and treat those around him with kindness and respect. In typical Rowboat Watkins fashion, there is quite a bit of dialogue that is presented in the format of speech bubbles. For someone who isn't great at making voices for different characters when reading books aloud, I felt like it was a little more challenging to read and convey the conversation between characters appropriately. That is my one critique of this book. Otherwise, the message and lesson in this book is great and allows for lots of productive conversations around manners. After reading this book to my class, we had an awesome conversation about how to show manners and different ways to respond to situations we encounter.

Adorable book - cakes for hats - very creative
Let me just say that I love Amazon's "look inside" feature. My 4 year old son is really picky about his books - they have to be hardcover and they HAVE to have good graphics. I looked at this book and it made me laugh so I ordered it. My son loves this book - when I first got it he would make me ready 2 or 3 times a night (and sometimes during the day). Very cute and very funny - also recommend "Veggies with Wedgies" very very funny and also one of his faves!

Weird... Really Really Weird
This book is weird -- really really weird. My three year old has been on a tear about bedtime stories and why they must be read on the ipad -- So I've made a lot of children book purchases for the Kindle app here on Amazon recently -- this is one of those books that makes me feel a little weird about whether I'm getting fair reviews of a book on Amazon, it had a lot of 5 stars and I can't possibly give this book 5 stars, that would place it on the level with the greatest children's books of all times... and this isn't that kind of book -- but in the end, this isn't about me, this is about the toddler and whether or not she likes the book. But more about me.. and my needs....First, this book has a message to deliver -- I think that's clear by the title, but let me just summarize it the way I read it -- our story follows a rude baked good... a cake to be exact, the cake is rude to other baked goods and his/her/its parents... hence rude cake... fine-- bad cake, bad. Soooo, at some point, after bedtime for the baked good in question, he/ she/ it is abducted by a very pleasant cyclops -- and taken somewhere where the rude cake is shown off to the cyclop's friends, many pleasantries are exchanged regarding the rude cake, who they think is a hat. After some protest, from rude cake, the cyclops realizes they were wrong for abducting rude cake and pleasantly returns rude cake to his/her/its bed.Hmmmmmmmmmm?????? I get it... no wait ....I don't. The main message is clear, I get that -- how the author came up or even connected these strange characters to one another, I don't get it -- because THAT doesn't make ANY sense -- if my summary sounds crazy well ...there ya go-- Just my opinion, I'm 40 years old --BUT my three year old LOOOVVVVEEEEESSSSS this book.... say what? So I can't write it off as a waste of money, I didn't like it... I cringe when she points to it every night because it's so weird -- but the truth is the toddler loves it and in the end that's all that counts, I have no idea what's going on in that three year old mind that makes this book even decent, but LOVE??? -- Soooo, three stars from me-- 5 stars from my toddler -- that said, it's my Amazon account, so three stars it is... she can write her own review.

Leaving aside the wonderful plot twists and unique
Leaving aside the wonderful plot twists and unique, imaginative illustrations, this book works because it's a comedy of manners, not a lecture about manners, and kids always know the difference. Even the well-mannered cyclopses are inadvertently cruel to the rude pink cake before coming to their senses, and the cake has to channel its own rudeness to rescue itself from becoming a cyclops hat. The wholesome lessons are clear, but never feel like lessons. Bravo!
