Not what I hoped for. Few songs. Just a live performance

I think Martin Mull's comedy and music should be much better known. Near Perfect is an evening of standup comedy and music in which he insults the band, the audience, himself, practically everybody, all while acting as if he's unaware of it.The songs are a sampler of the pop styles of the late 70's from lounge lizard crooning to disco to blues to C & W, and all are immensely comic and singable.But the audio mixing is terrible. You need to listen with a hand on the volume control at all times to crank it up at the end of each song to catch the monologue, then turn it down as the next song comes on loud & strong.It sounds like he had a killer night back then - I wish I was there. But he should have fired his engineer and hired somebody who knows how to run the sound board.I don't regret buying the cd at all. I still enjoy it and enjoy singing some of those stupid songs in the shower. But if you try to share this one with friends in the car, the changing volume levels will drive you crazy.

First recorded in 1979, this is a fun fifty minutes of music/comedy from Martin Mull. If you're a fan of Mull, late seventies oddities or classic comedy in general, this is a pretty good buy.
