Six-Way Paragraphs in the Content Areas: Middle Level

Improves Reading Comprehension
I have been using 6 way paragraphs in my Academic Intervention Classes for years and have seen consistent improvement when my students use them. The paragraphs are multi-disciplinary and interest based and the questions help kids hone in on the key things that make a good reader. The scoring and is easy and the graph gives students a chance to monitor and track their own progress.

I use it daily!
As an independent reading specialist and tutor, I am always looking for relatively inexpensive materials I can add to my collection. This series has proven to be very effective for most of my students -- especially these Content Area books, as so many students struggle with reading/comprehending content area material in particular. They are also useful for data collection for IEP Objectives -- especially comprehension-related objectives that are notoriously difficult to assess. And my students seem to enjoy most of the stories! I also like that we can tackle text with enough "meat" in it for deep discussion and inference-making, without using up too large a chunk of our session.

Excellent Resource
I'm an Americorps volunteer with the Department of Corrections. I have been using this book with offenders working on their GED. This book is perfect for students that struggle with identifying the key concept in an article and supporting details. I like how it has a form to track the type of mistakes being made so that you can identify if there is an area of weakness for each student. I also like the fact that the readings are short enough that students don't lose interest. The article topics are diverse enough to interest an adult reader which is rare to find for this reading level.

I use it every day, with almost every student
As an independent reading specialist and tutor, I am always looking for relatively inexpensive materials I can add to my collection. This series has proven to be very effective for most of my students -- especially the Content Area books, as so many students struggle with reading/comprehending content area material in particular. I have also found more advanced, quality content to be very difficult to come by. They are also useful for data collection for IEP Objectives -- especially comprehension-related objectives that are notoriously difficult to assess. And my students seem to enjoy most of the stories!

Reading Level too high for "Introductory Level"
I love the book but was disappointed that the stories started at the 4th grade level. I have a similar book and was looking for something on a 2nd or 3rd grade level. Since my first book starts at about 4th grade I assumed "introductory Level" would be easier reading.

A great way for students to practice intelligent
All of the Six-Way Paragraph books are outstanding in content and approach. A great way for students to practice intelligent, careful analysis of text, without wading through a long article.

ESL Applied....
I use this book for my English as a Second Language curriculum resource. My objective is to build vocabulary, improve comprehension, critique pronuncation, and build confidence with Spanish speakers in the El Paso area. This series of books by Pauk is outstanding in this regard. None better. This series is the core of my curriculum and has been for the past five years since its discovery by me. Thank you.

Four Stars
I like the short passages, but was not challenging for most of my high school students.
