One of his favorite night time necessities.
We purchased 3 of these. One for home and one for each grandmother's house. Enough said.

A really great nightlight and sound machine
My kids love these , I had to buy two so each could have one in their rooms. It lights out the whole ceiling with stars. It does have a timer so it doesn't suck up the batter all night.

Goodbye insomnia
Admitting... I get really creeped out in the dark. AND I can't sleep when there is any light on, even the light from my alarm clock bothers me. Go figure! I ordered this after weeks of paranoia and insomnia, borrowing one of my kid's dream lites penguin and noticed that it helped a little bit. This however totally puts the dream lites to shame. It has a rounded dome back which gives you a much wider view of the stars all over your ceiling and wall and is much brighter and better detailed (not too bright for sleeping though). I don't care for the music and sounds (they have adjustable volume levels but even minimum is too loud for me) but what makes this better than others is the option of different timers that the lights stay on, and I LOVE the fact that I can select the option of rotating lights in which the stars on my ceiling rotate through the red, green, & blue stars instead of just being one color the entire time. I've had this for about 7 weeks now and I have never slept better in my life. Watching the stars also makes my mind shut off and fall asleep quickly. I have the timer set on 15 minutes but I've never lasted that long before falling asleep where as before getting this, it was nothing for me to lay there thinking for way over an hour. I set it on my nightstand and I see the rotation of the stars through the colors about 4 times then fall asleep so peacefully.

FINALLY
Ok, so judge as you will but my 4 year old has never slept in her own bed. I tried and tried for over a year and NOTHING worked. I redid her room, got her a full size bed, sound machines, projectors, everything; so when I got this today I honestly had little hope. Well to my PLEASENT SURPISE my daughter instantly loved this hippo. She was EXCITED to lay down in bed and "play" with it. She enjoyed the rain sound and lights and finally after a year.. went to sleep on her own. This hippo is everything I tried all in one! I am so very happy with this purchase. I will tell everyone I possibly can about this. It is the first night, so I am still hoping the novelty doesn't wear off but it's a great made product. I love that there are different sound features, and that it can be played for up to 45 minutes and it is soft to snuggle with. Can't recommend it enough.

Cute, soft, works well, good purchase
I have the tranquil turtle from cloud b for my oldest kid, but didn't want to spend $40 for another one, so I bought this one and it's ok. It's not as nice as the cloud b one, but it gets the job done and my 8 month old likes it a lot. The music is not as clear as I'd like, and you cant control the brightness of the stars, which I don't like. The stars are very bright in red and green, and more dim and pleasant in blue, but still a little too bright. The lullaby's the elephant plays is very repetitive, but its not me that needs it for sleep, so it doesn't really bother me once I leave my kids room at night. The elephant itself is very cute and soft. It's not necessarily a cuddly type of toy, but you could still have it in your kids bed. I do like the timer on it. I wouldn't want the stars shining on her ceiling all night. All in all, it's decent, baby likes it, stars are fun to look at, and it helps my kid sleep better. For the price, it's a great purchase (saw a similar one at target for twice as much).

Great sleep aid
I am a big fan of this musical hippo. I bought my first summer infant musical toy roughly four years ago for my son (he had the green elephant), so when we had our second child, I knew I'd be purchasing another one of these because they work so well.Pros:*Several different songs, many of which are actually calming.*Three different light color options and a fourth option in which it cycles through all three colors.*The light transition from red, to green, to blue is nice and slow, which is soothing for babies and young children.*Cute looking toy, which appeals to young kids*Timer for music, so it can eventually shut off after they fall asleep (15, 30, and 45 minute options).*Different volumes for sound levels.Cons:Needs one more volume option, which should be even softer than it offers at its lowest setting. I'm fairly sensitive to sound, so this could be softer, in my opinion. Only current way to muffle it a bit more is by putting a blanket on it, but then you can't use the lights...so completely up to you all. (We don't use the lights while our daughter is an infant, but we did use them as our son aged).Note: If you found this review to be helpful, please indicate that accordingly! Thanks!

4 years later
Ok so lets me be frank ... My daighter loves this thing to death. I bought this for her 4 years ago, yes FOUR!!! Tonight she just came out crying because it wouldn't turn back on for her. When you shake it, you can hear something inside rattling around. With just the right touch, we got it to turn back on. Now she can careless about the music. She just wants her "twinkle stars" on. So after 4 very rough years, of being abused and loved on by a now 4 y/o, it is time to order a new one.Now with that said ...This thing is amazingly tough and does what it says. The stars in my opinion are very bright when you put in new batteries. However, those said batteries seem to last forever and the stars just grow dimmer as they age. This is part of why it seems so bright when you replace ths batteries. I'm sure if you used the musical aspects as well it would drain the batteries fast, but as I mentioned before, we don't care for the music on it.All in all if you are debating on if you should buy this, do it. It was $25 back when I bought it 4 years ago, and we don't regret spending the money on it at all.
