About the Brand Twenty years ago in a garage near Fresno, Calif., an innovative beverage executive had an idea that meat snacks should offer more than the consistency and taste of shoe leather. Jim Rekoutis knew that jerky could be flavorful, moist, and chewy, a natural product made with ingredients that were healthy. At the time, processors were turning to poultry products to entice people into consuming lower amounts of fat in their diets. "So, I thought, why not turkey jerky?" After more than a year of experimentation, a flavor trial, taste tests, and production problems, the first original flavor of turkey jerky without preservatives was ready for production. In 1982, SnackMasters opened its doors with the world's first turkey jerky. Ceres, Calif., near the turkey capital of the world, is home for SnackMasters. They take advantage of the locally abundant turkey to buy tons of it per month. Along with tons of beef and fish, SnackMasters makes a lot of jerky. "However, here at SnackMasters we sacrifice high yield for high quality," says Rekoutis. SnackMasters yields less than other processors because they prefer processing without water or preservatives. "By using just the right blend of sauces and spices, our jerky is better tasting, better chewing, healthier, and longer lasting than our competition. We produce what our customers demand," he says. SnackMasters uses all-natural beef and free-range turkey, marinated in a mix of ingredients made in fresh batches each morning. No water is added. There are also no artificial colors, flavors, enhancers, or ingredients in their products. Plus, all phases of the processing procedure are considered handmade. "SnackMasters is truly not a mass production-machined product," says Rekoutis.

good, traditional jerky
I've been on a long quest to find the beef jerky I loved in my youth. This isn't it but it is one of the nice finds I have come across in my quest. First, I like the texture -- I'm not all that crazy about the attempts at making jerky into something tender and chewy by leaving too much moisture in the meat (if the package says to refrigerate after opening it's a sure sign that it's not actually jerky). This has a good flavor though I'm not partial to jerky made with worcestershire sauce. Good stuff -- if you like real jerky, this is worth a try.

Great Jerky
I can't claim that this is the best tasting Jerky for anyone since everyone has their own opinion/tastes, but I am not afraid to admit that I buy beef Jerky anytime I see it within reach.Been a huge fan of beef jerky since I was a little kid since I was on plenty of road trips from New Mexico to Colorado because of family. Jerky was the perfect snack. From 20 years ago to now, I always have had a passion for Jerky and never surprised by any Jerky until this came around. Was only able to find this Jerky in my company's cafeteria. Then they stopped carrying it and immediately looked online to find it. Yes it might be expensive, but its totaly worth it. Even their customer service is great because one time I got a bad package from the cafeteria and reported it on their site. They ended up sending me 4 fresh packages (all different flavors) to make up for it.This is worth a try if you want something new. Unfortunately I can't afford to get this all the time. Maybe its a good thing because I ordered 2 orders of the Jerky (24 packages) and went through it in 3 days.

It's really good
This is really great jerky. I have been searching online and buying jerky for the past 8-9 years trying to find a perfect jerky. This brand comes very very close. First, if you do not like dry jerky this is not for you. I happen to love dry jerky and for me this could have actually been a little more drier but it's pretty damn close. Great flavor. Great texture. Priced a little high but thats pretty much any jerky thats not some nasty store brand. Almost ate all 8 packs in three days. Will be placing another order soon. May actually sign up for auto shipments if it's available.

Good jerky but a bit dry
I've enjoyed other products by SnackMasters, but this particular beef jerky is very, very dry. I'm not sure if it's this type of packaging, since the jerky is not vacuumed sealed, but I found it to be extremely dry for my taste. Flavor is good and you can tell the meat is great quality, but it's unfortunate that this specific presentation is so dry.

I love this jerky
Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, yummy, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy....Are you seeing a pattern here? My favorite beef jerky! If your a lover of jerky, this ones for you.BTW, this is not the "soft" kind of jerky you might be familiar with. (JackLinks, etc) This is hard, not chewy. This is not a complaint, just a note.Enjoy

Yucko . . . unless you are a fan of tough, gristle laden jerky
Gristle, gristle, and more gristle. This jerky (based on many years of jerky eating) has more gristle per pack, than ALL of the jerky I have eaten over many years. Generally tough meat, large junks, difficult to tear off or bite off.

Best Jerky
I first tried this in CA. It was carried for a while in VA but was no longer carried a few years ago. I hope it continues to sell since it is by far the best beef jerky. It is high quality meat (not too soft, not to fatty) and has a nice flavor.
