This is a beautiful planter, even when completely empty
This is a beautiful planter, even when completely empty. It went together very easily, took me about 30-40 minutes, working alone, from the cutting open of the box to having it ready to fill. I had a little trouble with some of the slats not wanting to stay in place, eventually figured out that I had not lined up one of the main support beams quite right so it was *slightly* off square. Fixed that => fixed the 'slat won't stay in right' problem. Also, DO NOT FORCE THE SLATS. The wood splits rather easily, so you can end up with some ugly 'wounds' on the piece.Even filled, it turns and moves easily on a smooth surface, such as concrete / wood / fake-wood-flooring. I wouldn't want to push it FILLED across carpet, but it rolled just fine on it while still empty. The filling actually took much longer than the assembly, and was VERY messy - you WILL want a drop cloth under it as they recommend in their videos (go to their website and watch these, you will be glad you did). I'm using my usual blend of peat moss, vermiculite and coir fiber, they have all kinds of excellent advice on their website on this front. It takes a LOT of it, so, be prepared!! And don't skimp on the moisture, it will "stack" more easily and you can get it to mold to the shape of the planter more easily if you err slightly on the side of 'too moist' rather than 'too dry.'One thing to note if you're planning to use it INDOORS: This IS possible, but may be messy. The water runoff isn't a big problem: You can put a pan under the structure to catch any water runoff (I'm using a disposable aluminum roasting pan). It's the dirt that'll get ya: it does NOT stay in the planter very well until your plants have established some roots to hold it in place. Leave the drop cloth in place until this happens - they recommend allowing the filler to "settle" at least overnight before planting, and this is really good advice. Mine collapsed considerably overnight, and like an idiot I'd moved it off the drop cloth; I was a touch annoyed the next morning when I had to sweep up what felt like a metric ton of dirt off the floor (it was probably about 4-5 cups, but it FELT like ALL THE DIRT THERE IS). It also may drop dirt on you whenever you move it, or nudge it, or water it. Or have a cat try to use it as a launching point to a high-up window.Eventually I took out my Costco-sized block of food-grade plastic wrap, and literally wrapped the WHOLE THING to get it to quit dumping dirt all over the floor. This also had the nifty side benefit of creating a kind of 'moisture seal' that the seeds REALLY seemed to like - I'd been giving them a "heavy misting" of water in the mornings using a big spray bottle (like you'd use for household cleaners, only, you know, NEVER used for household cleaners / only for nice, clean water), but after wrapping it up the dirt has stayed evenly moist throughout and the seeds started sprouting really well.Again, only 'necessary' if a) you are driven mad by the dirt on the floor and b) are starting plants from seeds. Once the roots are in place, the dirt stops free-falling on you quite so readily and you should be set.

I absolutely love this product
not only is this product easy to assemble it is beautiful. I have had many comments on its uniqueness and beauty. I am planning on buying another one to move my strawberries off the ground. I have the one I have planted in herbs and they are growing great. It is so easy to maintain although the automatic watering vessel does not water all the way to the top I just let the sprinkler fall on it or mist it with the hose and that is all it takes to maintain. Filling it with dirt was a little time consuming but once filled it has held the potting soil I used with no problem. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a versatile garden in a small space. It has 44 planting spaces which could all be the same or as I have mine with 44 different herbs. Love this product

Don't buy it!!
I wish I did a better reading on this reviews before buying it!! This was a gift to a dear friend of mine who wanted something to grow veggies and herbs on her balcony so I found the Earth Tower Vertical Garden and, even if though it was was a bit expensive compared to other garden systems, I bought it for her. It did arrive on time then she did her homework to see what she needed to get to start the "project" so she got dirt, seeds and the tools, as the Web mentions; I came down to help her put it together and what should be an hour or two turned out to be 2 days and more! The material we got did not assamble well, lots of difficulty lining things up, the screws would not go all the way in and they send the exact amout of screws need it except that(because of horrible quality control) we got an screw that had the star blocked with steel in it so it was no way to use it, therefore that was a trip to the lumber just for that. Need to mention that we had to spend $7 for 1 screw because they didn't sell just the unit so we had to get small box. Another IMPORTANT detail: lining sheet to place on top of the base: why they don't ship this with the tower??? You need to get this as well your self: another $10 or so!Bottom line: it could be a nice system but not for the price and the very poor cual its in many, many ways!

Happy MOM
This is a double review. My son purchased the Earth tower to grow his own plants, being he lives in apartment it's ideal. He's already seen some results and it really happy her purchased his. So much so, that when Mother's day came around he suggested that I purchase this for my mom for mother's day. The picture that I posted is from the one I sent my own Mom. She's had several of her neighbors compliment on how beautiful it is. I love that you can be creative and make it your own. Both my mom and son stated that the tower was simple to put together and with wheels makes moving it easy. I would highly recommend the earth tower.

Difficult to put together
I love the idea of the tower garden with wheels to move around. What I don't like - you have to pour the dirt into the dirt starting at the bottom taking out one slat at a time replace it; and then move up and take out the slat pour in dirt and reinsert slat and move up again. Needless to say after I paid someone to put it together, it is sitting there with nothing in it. I am very unhappy I bought this and am looking for another vertical planter.

Plants love it but the design could be better.
I purchased the tower for accessibility for a family member and because it maximized planting space as compared to other products. I must say that the plants thrive. I've had multiple early harvest for many vegetables. But the design is greatly lacking as many have reported. The slats fall out and the dirt needs refilled often. I've had no choice but to prune two dwarf tomatoes (in half). With only 6 weeks since planting, I'm impressed but disappointed that I'll likely not be able to use it next year. Plex or a recycled plastic material would make a sturdier design. I can only hope that a stronger product becomes available next year.
