Native Trees of Western Washington: A Photographic Guide

Great resource!
I love learning all about our native PNW plants. This is such a perfect resource!Just enough detail, and yet concise enough to get just the information you need for tree identification. It’s a great book for learning about the topic quickly and easily. I learned some new vocabulary and concepts without working too hard at it, and their are enough photos to really help you learn the specifics and unique characteristics of each tree.(Thank you, Kevin Zobrist!)

As one of Kevin's students, I'm probably a little biased. This is kind of a niche book--it's just about the trees you're going to see in local forests. Pojar and MacKinnon's book tends to be overkill--you have to wade through dozens of trees to find the one you're actually seeing. This book is small enough to carry with you on hikes, and you'll find your tree within a few minutes at most. My only complaint is that, given the limited number of trees, he could have included more detailed information about each species. But then again I've got other references for that, and that info is available in classes. Definitely worth buying for the casual forest owner/operator, or a hiker wanting to know what s/he is looking at.
