Not scratches
I read the reviews before I bought this and noticed two things. Some folks complained about the batteries being hard to put in. I didn't find this to be true. To put the last battery in just push the already installed batteries apart. The last battery slides right in. You do need to be able to use both hands to accomplish this. And there were a lot of people complaining about scratches. Saying that it scratched immediately and very easily. It is plastic and it will scratch, but what looks like scratches after I've used it for just a short time are not scratches, but oil or maybe just water vapor. It looks very much like scratches and appears almost spontaneously. I will just leave it alone until it starts to bother me when reading. Then clean it with a very soft cloth and soapy water. The one I bought is almost exactly the size of a large format paper back book page. The new size solely for the purpose of charging more for the book. Too small for a text book without adjustment.

Haven't found one that works without a hitch; the light is pretty bright.
This is the second one I've purchased. The first was a rechargeable, "used, like new" that would only light up for a moment before it quit. I returned that one and got this one, the battery-powered version, and the battery compartment doesn't close. I don't feel like returning it again, so I just duck-taped it down.As for the light itself, I can't be disappointed that it's not as low-lit as the Kindle. My husband is really sensitive about lights while he's trying to sleep (fair) and I thought I'd give this a try. I think it's too bright. I'm going on an overnight airplane trip soon, and will not bring it along as it will be too much of a disturbance for other passengers. As for my husband, I do think I'll just invest in a nice pair of sleeping eye-cover thingies.

Provides the soft light I need for reading.
My husband purchased my first LightWedge lights for me in two sizes some years ago. I wear trifocals with additional correction in my right eye. I find many of the LED clip on lights too bright. The flat surface and soft light of the LightWedge works for me. I can read longer without strain. I use mine with books and my older Kindle. It takes a bit of patience to put in the batteries [four AAA] but worth the effort to use this product. I purchase this one because my husband is using my original. I wish Amazon had a larger size as well.

Power did not come on.
The product I received matched the description, and the product didn't appear to be damaged in any way, but it did not work. I installed new, fully-charged batteries as directed in the written instructions and as shown on the product, but the power switch was loose and the light would not turn on. I returned the product for a refund.

Best book light I've ever owned!
I bought my paperback-sized LightWedge Paperback Book Light, Black several years ago. It goes everywhere I travel and takes up no extra room in my suitcase or carry-on. It's compact and has 2 brightness settings. I have yet to change the 4 AAA batteries. It fits beautifully over my standard paperbacks. I do have to move it from one page to the one across as I read, but the 2 lamps in the unit provide complete coverage of the page; very bright without bothering my travel buddies. There was a period of time when the clear, acrylic page overlay became cloudy (but never hindered my ability to use it). Neither window cleaner nor mild soap cleared it up. It went away after a couple of weeks. I still have no idea what caused that. So if you experience this, don't throw it away. Be patient or call the manufacturer.I bought a 2nd gen Kindle (6") just over a year ago (love that, too!). My LightWedge covers the screen completely, however, it is a bit difficult to keep on the device using only one hand. I sometimes end up activating the search bar on the Kindle because I squeeze the light on the Kindle in the wrong spot. There still isn't a different book light (and I have several) that works as well with my Kindle.I've found it also makes a great night light on trips with friends. I don't worry about stumbling in a dark hotel room or turning on lights which would wake my roommates. The book light provides plenty of light for moving around the room or digging in a drawer or suitcase.I love this book light and even bought it for each of my daughters. They love it, too!

I opened the package upon arrival and put in new batteries. When I laid the device over a page I noticed that the viewing area was covered by interference patterns created by the interaction of the point sources of light emitted from the product. It was kind of like seeing a dozen grey scale rainbows all over the screen. Trying to read linearly across the text on the page with all of these arc-like shadows all over makes it almost impossible to concentrate on the text as you read. For $10 I'm not going through the hassle of returning it, but I guess you get what you pay for. I would save your money on this one. Not recommended.

Limited in size
Brilliant idea but leaves a lot to be desired. I ended up going with a simple clip light since this really works best only with mass market paperback sized books. You're really limited by the size of the thing. Not to mention the whole point is to keep excess light to a minimum but this still spills light everywhere. I did like the color temperature of the light though, a nice neutral white light.

Great Booklight / Toddler nightlight
I bought this as a flashlight for my 2 year old who is afraid of “monsties” lol. It’s not too bright and there is no worry he will try to shine it in his eyes. Also 4 rechargeable batteries seem to last forever before needing a re-charge. Also a comfortable booklight that is plenty bright enough to read with while not disrupting your partner in bed.
