X-Terrorists Extort the World and Call Themselves Heroes!
If you're into entertaining comics or classical themes of heroism and sacrifice, this comic is not for you. Your favorite mutantshave taken it upon themselves to act like terrorists. They extort the nations of the world, offering them medical cures in exchange for some sort of weird validation that is never explained. The author doesn't seem to understand the characters or any conception of morality. Every character, including Beast, acts like a murderous psychopath. This is not a compelling tale of heroes put in difficult situations, where they are forced to find imperfect solutions. This is the tale of villains who are willing to sacrifice countless innocents to cement their own place of power. No payoff, no stakes, and bad storytelling - a definite pass.

Of the new line of X-Men books this one is strong on action and weak on character
Ever since I read House of X/Power of X I've been enjoying the new take on the X-Men. Though I don't read all the books, I've been gradually expanding my reading, trying various books that originally weren't as intriguing to me. So, it was only as the 2nd X-Force volume came out that I got around to reading the first X-Force collection.I'm going to start with what I liked. In some of the books it seems like the mutants and Krakoa always have the upper hand. They have a wide array of powers, technology, and miraculous Krakoan biotech that allows them to outsmart and outmaneuver their foes. But in X-Force we see that the mutant don't always have the advantage and that there are enemies out there who are just as smart and resourceful as Xavier and his crew. That was really important to see. Also, it is an action packed and relatively bloody collection. The characterization is a bit weak as character moments are sacrificed in favor of action and plot (and bloodshed!). Benjamin Percy does a great job establishing that the antagonists the X-Men are facing are not just a real threat but are utterly ruthless and evil. These are smart people willing to make huge sacrifices in pursuit of destroying Charles Xavier. But, overall, this book left me shrugging. The characterization is weak, sacrificed in the service of fight scenes and twists that are supposed to escalate the plot. But at the heart of this book is a problem that the new mutant status quo will need to wrestle with. If cunning human terrorists are able to kill a dozen mutants but all of them can be brought back to life over the course of a few days, then what meaning does their deaths have? And from that, what meaning does anything that the human terrorists do have if everyone can be brought back to life and the Krakoan drugs guarantee that the mutant nation remains one of the wealthiest countries in the world. It's a problem that X-Force just kind of skips around. Other books in the new X-Men universe work better despite this question because they focus much more on characterization or because they are centered on different issues. But X-Force puts the security of Krakoa front and center and, in so doing, reveals that there aren't really any stakes in a world where every mutant can just be brought back to life. Also, why didn't Domino go to a healer after she got back to the island? That should have been the first thing that was done.As for the art, it's okay. There's a roughness to it, a sort of sketchiness and excess of lines, that's not quite to my liking. It may have been a deliberate choice, to add to the sense of grittiness of the story, but I much prefer the art I'm seeing in the main X-Men book and the Marauders.

Escalation
I was not sure to begin with but I really like this version of X-Force. This time they are not just the black ops team sent in to take out the target. This version of the team has a direction a great mix of brains, brawn and powers.I like the Mutant CIA approach to the book. An assassination attempt has forced the mutants to up their game but win the shadow games as well.I like the story and the artwork. A couple of characters that did surprise me, but rely shouldn't have were Jean and Beast. Thinking about it Jean has always had a temper held in check by Scott so seeing, and her being on the Quiet Council make her perfectly place for the team. How better then one of the worlds most powerful telepaths and telekinetics is perfect of both intelligence gathering and destruction. Beast has always on thus dimension been the conscience of the X-MEN, but remember the Dark Beast was the same man from another dimension. Is it so hard to believe Beast could become more clinical and calculating?

Actioned Packed & Full of Suspense
What a romp this story was with thrust and counter thrust!Mutants aren’t perfect but, even when they try to live in peace with world, the worst of humanity refuses to let it happen.Great story! So very true to human history over millennia.
