A durable and "last resort" toy for owners who have finally awakened: you can't fool a cat for long.
After going through virtually every "bird-on-a-string" type of toy offered by Amazon (some on fancy fiberglass rods costing over $20), all either broken or dismissed by my apathetic, dispassionate, fickle and fastidious felines, I've come back to this old favorite--"beefed up" by the addition of two extra birds--a sort of last resort for the cat owner who's despairing of ever getting a rise out of cats that suddenly seem jaded, satiated, weary of all the kitty-toy business.I can report moderate if qualified success with the product. If I work it hard enough, I can get a physical response from either of two cats (neither yet 2 years old). At the same time, I must admit that the cats seem to go after this thing more to please me than themselves. And in all candor, isn't that what this whole cat toy business was about in the first place? (PETA would probably insist that cats require a large jungle--outdoors!--to realize their authentic selves, their true essence, or "catness.")So considering that I signed an agreement with my local humane society never to release these cats outside the house, I have no right to be down on my cats if they're less than keen on jumping 4-6 feet in the air just because I'm pleading with them to go after 3 sorry likenesses of mice attached to 3 strings on a stick! They're cats, for Pete's sake. I'm happy they're not soaking the carpet and sofa (though I wish they would stop clawing the paper off the walls of a house we had hoped to sell--but I also signed an agreement, much to my son's approval but not my wife's, that neither cat would ever be declawed.)P.S. This toy may have one extremely useful outcome. My cats are constantly getting their claws caught in the strings--a reminder that, like it or not, they're not protected by any papers that I remember signing from a bit of efficient, non-injurious nail-trimming... (I'll hold the cat down; my wife can handle the clipper.)

A hit in our house
I ordered this wand for my blind kitty who is one and a half years old. She wants to play ALL the time. Usually I buy things that have a bell or makes an electronic noise (bird chirping, etc.). However, her favorite wand has been a homemade wand that has three pom-poms tied together on a string, with no noise. She will hunt for this toy and drag it to me.The reason I bought this wand was the three different strands with the friendly soft cover. I thought if she felt the feathers or the strands, she had a good chance of clawing one and I was right. She has no problem snagging it. Now here is the kicker --- she found the new wand and dragged it to me so that we could play! This is huge because I have at least eight or nine wands in an umbrella holder and she picked this one! I was so happy to know my money was well spent because, let's face it, it's a real crapshoot (pardon my language) when guessing what a cat will like. Only the feathers are attached, and not the toys, which I think is great because it is light and Zuzu (the blind kitty) gets frightened when something thumps up against her.Another of our cats loves this wand also for a different reason. All he wants to do is chew on the feathers. Tux's other name is "Mr. Destructo" so I was not surprised at his reaction. We are happy that this wand works for us.

Surprisingly sturdy and great fun!
I purchased this as a gift along with some treats as Christmas stocking stuffers for our two indoor cats. (Yes, they are that spoiled; but I digress.) These two lazy but lovable adult males have about every cat toy on the planet including several varieties of wand cat toys, which generally lose their luster after a very short time. So, I was looking for something inexpensive but different since it was just a stocking stuffer, expecting the usual result. Well, we've played with it nearly every day since Christmas because they LOVE IT! I haven't seen them hustle and play this exuberantly in quite some time. One of the boys is a big guy - weighing in at 20 lbs with large claws (vet says he has some main coon in him), and the other is a mid-sized guy who can be quite rambunctious when we play, so they both truly put this toy through its paces. The three colored strands are a soft stretchy fabric that hold up to chases with big outstretched claws, triumphant pounces and landings. The feathers are still fully in tact, too. I have paid a lot more for very popular wand toys that have not held up nearly as well as this toy has so far. Great fun, sturdy and surprisingly well made. Super buy...the boys give it eight paws up!

Definitely recommend !!
Our cats love these types of toys but one of them usually ruins them. The cat likes to catch the toy on the end and then would chew through the string that attaches it to the pole rendering the toy useless. That has not happened with this one even after years of use. The string part is made out of a soft fabric and even when chewed it is still strong. The pole is of great quality, while being very sturdy it does bend a little when the cat cat he’s the toy which makes it easier to play with them. They also seem to really like that it has three separate strings and feathers. They will catch one of them and then try to catch another, it’s actually really entertaining to watch :)

Better than some
The cats do enjoy this toy. The end of this is an actual fishing pole with the the fleece tied to the end. The strips are nice and long but the end of this pole is hard if the cats bump it or get hit with this on accident. One of the feathered toys fell off already after only a week. Going to try to sew it back on. Do like the grip and it makes it easy to play with. The three strips help make it interesting. One of our cats loves it the other cat so so.
