Review critical!
I watched the original "Top Gun" when it first came out years ago. I recently purchased "Top Gun Maverick" but am waiting to watch it until I watch the original again so I will be able to track events of a historical nature first. "Maverick" arrived yesterday, so I better make time soon to watch the original first!!

Amazing
I have watched the 2D version several times. In 3D, it’s a completely different movie. The aerial scenes are simply amazingI don’t believe that the movie was filmed in 3D, but whatever tech they used to convert it was seamless

Fun time with Tom Cruise
I was delighted that there were even snippets of Top Gun Maverick included.

If You Love Military History & Movies, You'll Enjoy This One!
Could relate to this military training movie! At 11 my middle brother made me an Honoray Mascot of his platoon, one week before he sailed to Korea! Also sbuscribed the Leaherneck Magazine for me. At 26, I applied for Warrant Officer & Helicopter training. I was older than all my instructors, but they were great! Like in the movie, there were a lot of trials and tribulations, but all managed to make it. Since being older many came to me for advice!

It is a must see
Loved the movie but it channels other movies including Top Gun, Star Wars, and Iron Eagle. I understand that it's a sequel and it should relate to the previous movie however, same opening song and just different planes wow. Star Wars Death Star Trench Scene times 2 wow. While plausible, steeling an F-14 and channeling Iron Eagle not so much.Title says it all. see it buy it watch it again.

1986. Still a good flick.
Love watching this movie. Yeah, ok it’s fake. I’m not a Naval Aviator, so what the hell do I know. I was a helicopter crew chief in the Army before 1886, my life wasn’t that dramatic.I will say that everyone should know this: Being in the military is inherently dangerous. When you wake up that day, you never know if it will be your last.I had a blast. Do it over again if I was 18. There are no guarantees. Do your time, get out. Get your free education, your VA home loan. Live your life to its fullest. ✌️

Stands the test of time.
My sister accidentally ordered this while visiting, even though I own the move on Blu Ray and had it in the other room! Great movie still and the new one is surprisingly amazing.

The best update yet of this classic blend of romance and action.
Possible spoilers. I’ve probably seen this movie close to a dozen times and probably used the opening sequence to display some new electronics I bought, a dozen more. The film was released recently on a 4K version with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack that is just about perfect. Now you can really hear those fighter jets with window rattling audio and the picture features more man-sweat in great detail that you thought was imaginable. This is an upgrade over any version you might have seen before. The story is about a cocky, young Naval Aviator named Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise), the son of a pilot shot down in Vietnam. His navigator in an F-14 is Lt. (jg based on his epilates) Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards). When the top aviator on the USS Enterprise turns in his wings after a scary confrontation with a pair of MIG 18’s, Maverick is up next for advanced fighter training in Miramar, California. Regarding those MIGs, there is never a country associated with the planes, then or later in the film, although it seems clear they must be Russian. We get a lot of macho talk when the top pilots arrive at Top Gun school including leading Top Gun gunners, Lt. Tom “Iceman” Kazanski (Val Kilmer) and his “back seat driver,” Lt. Ron “Slider” Kerner (Rick Rossovich). When the boys hit the local bar and woo all the pretty ladies in their dress whites, you can understand how this movie became a huge recruiting tool for the Navy in the months that followed its release. The bar scene includes Maverick meeting his expected conquest for the night, Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood (Kelly McGillis) with a vocal rendition of “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling”. His efforts are gently spurred but the next day Maverick discovers she is a top civilian analyst on loan to the Navy. It’s clear they will get it on, but I always thought McGillis was an odd choice for the young pilot. Yes, she’s older but that isn’t it. She just didn’t seem like the girl Tom’s character would pursue. There will be an aerial crisis during training that changes their relationship as well as Maverick’s flawed character.Looking at this movie critically, it really falls short of a great action movie. For one thing the dialog is lame, at times cringe-worthy. What saves it are a lot of beefy, sweaty young men and some fantastic aerial photography. The later holds up well today. And did I mention the Dolby Atmos soundtrack? Speaking of soundtrack. Can anyone listen to Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” or Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away” without thinking of Top Gun? Recommended.

One of the best films of the 80's
One of the best films of the 80's, which put so many newcomers onto the big stage and set up some long term lucrative careers for its stars. Great soundtrack to accompany it, and you'll be tapping away to those catchy tunes.Might be seen as a bit mighty USA, bastion of truth, right and goodness versus nasty, dark Russian's but move on past that and accept it was a film of its time.Bought for my wife for Christmas present, as she has never seen it...one of the few people in the northern hemisphere not to have seen it. She even admitted to 'enjoying it'...praise indeed.Seen this film more than 20 times, and still enjoy it...Blu-ray certainly enhanced the viewing experience and at £5, a real bargain

Great film, Bluray conversion and Music.
Great film, and this Bluray is the best version I can ever remember watching, like being at the Cinema all over again. Good choice of extras also as this is the 30th Anniversary version. Highly recommended purchase for fans of Tom Cruise, aviation and the Eighties!

80s Cruise and a little beach ball thrown in
is a 1986 American action drama film directed by Tony Scott, and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, in association with Paramount Pictures. The screenplay was written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr., and was inspired by an article titled "Top Guns" published in California magazine three years earlier. The film stars Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerritt. It also marked the debut of actor Adrian Pasdar. Cruise plays Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a young naval aviator aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He and his Radar Intercept Officer, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Edwards) are given the chance to train at the US Navy's Fighter Weapons School at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.Top Gun was released on May 16, 1986. Upon its release, the film received generally mixed reviews from film critics but many particularly praised the action sequences, the effects, the aerial stunts, and the acting performances with Cruise and McGillis receiving the most praise. Four weeks after release, the number of theaters showing it increased by 45 percent. Despite its initial mixed critical reaction, the film was a huge commercial hit grossing US$356 million against a production budget of only US$15 million. The film maintained its popularity over the years and earned an IMAX 3D re-release in 2013. Additionally, the film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Take My Breath Away" performed by Berlin.Plot.After losing his friend, top pilot Maverick is given a second chance to redeem himself. He struggles to be at his best and also gets romantically involved with his civilian instructor Charlie.A cheesy 80s action romance pic from the Tom Cruise, who is actually to short to be a fighter pilot in real life with a standout musical score and songs and good film to keep both sexes happy on a Friday night.

Holy 1980s Batman!
Top Gun is an aviation based action film from 1986 (the year I was born) directed by Tony Scott (brother of Ridley), produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. The movie is based on Top Guns by Ehud Yonay and scripts written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. The stars are a baby faced action junky Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Tom Skerritt and Kelly McGillis. The film is centred around Tom Cruise's character Maverick. He gets the chance to join a top naval aviation school alongside his partner Goode (Anthony Edwards). This results in many exciting scenes of planes, romance and sweaty men parading in the sand.Anyone who lived through the 1980s or simply owned a lot of VHS back in the day knew of Top Gun or at least it's awesome theme song. The film had a lot of iconic scenes and an absolutely killer soundtrack. It was hard to avoid for a long time. I hadn't actually been a fan of the film growing up. I could happily enjoy it in passing but had not watched it in a fair few years. I saw the film on sale for a fiver and thought it was a good way to combat the endless dreary junk that Hollywood is churning out now. I wasn't wrong. I found the film to be a great fun time. This of course is all down to the previously mentioned plane porn, music and great performances from the whole cast. The one thing that really sticks out to me is just how well everything is shot. It doesn't matter what scene it is, there's always something going on in the back ground. Whether it's planes doing flyby's or just the natural sunlight causing some beautiful lighting. The bluray copy I bought looks really good. The colours were strong, the picture was sharp and crystal clear. It has aged a lot better than many '80s movies that have seen a re-release. The surround sound was also quite entertaining. Especially in the more intense flight sequences.Top Gun is an extremely refreshing movie to watch with the state of modern cinema. Everything in today's world needs to be dark, edgy and equipped a message so strong that you'll physically vomit from it being forced down your throat. Top Gun is a simple tale, one that it told very well and is really exciting to watch. If you're wanting a fun macho fist pumping movie to watch with your chums, this is an easy recommendation. Forget all the modern drivel and travel back to the '80s. When the world was a better place to live.

I feel the need, the need to...
...Write a review. That being said, what is there to write about a high octane* thrill-a-minute, homeoerotic, 80s jet-fest that hasn't already been said? It has the everlasting Tom Cruise doing what he generally does best and more lens filters than an influencers photography seminar. Now, if you happen to have a fairly decent home cinema with some sort of sub-woofery type thing, then select the DTS sound mix, crank up the volume, nail your furniture down, grease up your dadbod and soar away on the Highway To The Danger Zone. It will Take your breath away.*ironically, jet fuel has quite a low octane rating. Typically around 15, whereas the stuff you stick in your car is 90-100!
