Update: still havent fully flattened out after weeks. I literally flipped a table upside down and put tons of books & dumbells on it. The company reached out to offer a refund and i responded, but havent heard back in weeks.Original review: So i needed some new placemats and thought these looked unique. Honestly, i regret buying them. First off, they come rolled up so you have to put a bunch of weights on them flattening them out (i just got mine, so not sure how long it's going to take until they're flat..we'll see) which honestly i don't understand why they insist on doing this and why they won't just send them flat as a bunch of other people have complained about this. Secondly, the first thing i noticed was that a bunch of the edges were messed up. It looks like they were melted or something. I have no idea but it looks like crap. Third, if you're drinking something cold that has condensation and you set it on the coaster, the coaster will suction to the cup and come up with it every time because it's so lightweight. This one i guess was my fault for not getting weighted coasters, but still. Overall, i'm not stoked on these and wouldn't really recommend them.

For now 2 stars. I like them and seem good quality, but they arrived all folded in the box, not flat.I tired to leave them under a heavy box but no improvement. Hopefully after some time they get better.

UPDATE 7/23/2020:I recently started using Korean hot stone/earthenware bowls (ddukbaegi/dol sot) and, in a lapse of judgment, decided to use two placements as makeshift trivets to protect my table top. Big mistake... The bottom of the bowl melted the top place mat, leaving a permanent circular recess. I had to rip the bowl off the place mat to get it off. Fortunately, the bottom place mat was completely fine. I don't think this is grounds for removing a star off my original review, as I had previously stated that I didn't think it'd hold up to high heat, and I was right. I blame myself for my stupidity.If you're looking for a durable placemat that will hold up to direct high heat, look elsewhere. For what it's worth, I still like these placemats a lot and will separately purchase trivets that are meant to withstand high temperatures.ORIGINAL REVIEW:These placemats and matching coasters were perfect for the modern, minimalist aesthetic I was putting together. I like the unique shape. The material is smooth (so that it doesn't scratch table tops), lightweight, and easy to clean. I think it could be a tad thicker, however. I have not tried directly placing hot pots or pans on top of them and don't plan on it, as I'm a little concerned that the mats won't hold up to the heat. For regular dinner plates, soup bowls, and the like, they're perfectly functional.The matching coasters are cute, but due to their size, the thin material, and how it was rolled up for packaging, it curls up and doesn't lay flat on the table. It does the job, but I opted to buy sturdier marble coasters instead. I'll save these black coasters as backups.Overall, the product is great for the price point! Highly recommended.

Poor quality. Shipped scratched and with severe creases. Look elsewhere. Amazon has twenty vendors that sell these and these are the poorest version of them

They were cute, but they look like little cutouts that a toddler would make. The coaster is a great idea but because of the shape they look like little kidney beans sitting on the table. They it was almost as if you've left something on the table that you need to go pick up because they didn't really look like placemats. I won't mention that they were folded in the envelope so they wouldn't straighten out because that's understandable until you break them in. But they look so strange on my table and the coaster was really random

Pleased with these placemats; they fit my oval table beautifully and I like the asymmetrical form factor. The placemats arrived quickly and they were quickly "flattened" and ready for use. I laid them out flat and set a large heavy skillet on them for an hour.One side is smooth black and the other has a rich leather look. They wipe off easily.

I've never seen place mats like these before. They are very classy looking but can also be used for every day. I plan on using them for company next week for the first time and if they don't work out for some reason I can't imagine, I'll update this review. But honestly, the shape is unusual and the material is unusual so for me that's a win win.
