Just the Worst
Purchased this BS as I thought it would be...it didn't let me down. No video to review the tricks, and the written instructions are terrible.... the website instructions was bogus. Have to try to find videos that are nothing like the true instructions. My kid was very disappointed that he could not do ONE magic trick because there was no tutorial. The vendor or Ryan Oakes need to provide accurate instructions to view the videos. This is BS......I want my money back for this BS that I bought for my kid...or at least the videos promised in the kit. This is truly a hoax and a money disappearing act.

Not bad as a Starter Set - Ideal for 10-13 Years Old
I started out getting magic kits and sets in grade school. Most of them had the same standard gimmicked devices, but they were also easy to learn and use for someone that wasn't 10 yet. I started doing street magic in junior high, and was doing small shows and visiting conventions and shops from about 13 on. That's when you start to shy away from kits, and just get stand-alone gimmicked devices (or books on sleight of hand and such).I ordered this kit so my 10 year old Nephew and I could work on illusions together. Keep in mind that this doesn't come with 40 devices, but rather a dozen things that could be used for about 40 tricks. The "38 PC" mention on the front of the box is slightly misleading, TBH. Because that number includes multiple pieces of things used as part of a single gimmick. I guess they put that there to indicate that there are over three dozen pieces, so adult supervision is required. Which is true, but to put it on the front of the box may give the impression that you're getting a much larger kit. Which certainly exist, just not this kit. Moving on.The gimmicks are decent, for someone starting. But an eight year old may not have the patience to learn some of these, unless they watch the videos a few times. I will say that when I was in junior high, the penny/dime gimmick probably set me back $15 or $20. So I did find it interesting that they included it in this kit, I would have paid the asking price for the kit just for that one illusion as a kid.My Nephew was able to learn most of the tricks. Some he thought were cool, others kind of tame. Overall, I thought it was an okay kit. I was honestly expecting a bit better, at least for the asking price. If you have a child or relative that's interested in magic, this would make a good gift. Sure, there are better kits out there, but they won't all include everything in this one. And the gimmicked penny is mostly worth the asking price. So I'd say go for it, but maybe just with kids 10 and up.

Nice little starter set, but recommended for higher age groups
Close-up magic is a great way for a budding magician to start out, and that's exactly what this kit provides. It's recommended for 8 years and up, but some of these tricks will no doubt require help from an adult for kids that age. There's a certain amount of practice and a bit of slight-of-hand involved, and children that young don't usually have a very long attention span for learning that sort of thing. I would say 10-12 would be a more appropriate age group. If they attempt to use only the instructions they can quickly become frustrated. Magic is supposed to be all about having fun, so you don't want that to happen!Fortunately, there's unlock codes included to access online video demos by professional magician Ryan Oakes. I'd suggest showing those to your youngster first, as it really helps them to much more clearly and quickly understand how to do the tricks. They can always refer back to the booklet later, which will then be much easier for them to grasp after viewing the videos.Unfortunately, there isn't a video demo for every trick in the kit, which is a shame. So, plan on putting some time aside to spend with your child to help them to learn these tricks. In the end, you'll instill a love of magic, greater physical dexterity, and a happy child who's excited about their new skills!* Note: I strive to write concise reviews with honest opinions to assist you as a potential buyer, and receive no monetary compensation for doing so. Great for kids
This is a great set of tricks for any kids that might be interested in magic. The kit is rated for ages 8+ and for the most part I agree with that. Some of the tricks are very simplistic and easy to learn, but some of them require a lot of dexterity and practice. There are plenty of tricks included (over 40) and have a decent amount of variety. There is a book full of instructions as well, but some parental assistance might be needed for some of the tricks since the instructions can sometimes be not too kid-friendly. However, they did advertise that there are video instructions available online for each illusion, so that helps greatly too. We didn’t actually use them, so I can’t speak for the quality of the videos, but it’s good to know that they’re available. One negative aspect of the kit was that a couple of pieces came broken so we couldn’t do a few tricks. Make sure you thoroughly examine each part when you receive it. It’s not surprising because the box is way too big for all the pieces - they seriously could’ve packed the same kit in a box half the size. With the pieces jumbling around on the inside during transit, I could see why the pieces broke.Overall, minus the broken pieces this set is awesome. It’s a great activity for kids and will keep them (and you) occupied for days. Highly recommended.
