What is Tactical Periodization? (Soccer Coaching) Paperback – April 12, 2015

Not the most readable book, as this is a translation from Portuguese of Xavier Tamarit’s work, based on Frade’s methodology, Tactical Periodization. However, the content in here is incredibly eye-opening, and makes me a firm believer in the applications of TP. To sum it up, it is about designing a game model that have principles and subprinciples that guide a team’s behaviors and organization in the four moments of the game (offense, defense, transition to offense, transition to defense). This should be read by any coach or aspiring player in any team sport that includes those four moments of the game.

Very good indeed, explains the concept very well and the translation is very good. The only thing i believe would add to its educational value would be some practical exercise examples. I saw the author give a presentation in Buenos Aires in 2015 and was impressed by what i heard. Well worth a read for any student of the game.

This is a good book of a modern tendency in football. However, this reads like a high school paper. The kind that to fulfill the page requirement puts as many quotes as possible. By the end of this book you'll feel more compelled to read books referenced in this book rather than keep this around.

It is very dry without delving into how it applies.

I like the concept behind it but just reading this wouldn't help applying the actual knowledgeI recommend buying tactical periodization by Pedro mendonca that deals with Bayern Munich under Jupp Heynkes- then you understand how such concept can be applied in daily training sessions and the whole season.

Virtually incomprehensible and not at all practical. More a philosophical thesis than coaching manual. If you are studying for a sports PhD this might be useful to you. If you want to coach grassroots football get a book by Ray Power.
