Nice hat, but maybe not Amazon Prime
If you have ever used the Frogg Toggs rain jackets (the actual full jacket or rain pants, not the cheaper lighter rain suit they sell as a set), this is made of the same material but thinner. I like it. It's very light and like the jackets does great repelling rain. I shared a concern with one of the other reviewers, that it wouldn't vent well in the heat. I'll post an update later after I test it more, but after getting the hat I was pleased that the material was thin so it already feels cooler on my head than my cloth boonie hat. And the best venting hats I've seen feature mesh or open areas on the top, so they wouldn't do well against rain. My existing cloth hat is fine for cool dry weather, but I wanted a hat versatile enough for heat, sun, cold, and rain, and this might be it. I like that there's an adjustable band for tightening the fit on your head, and also a chin strap to keep it fastened under heavy wind. One gripe: Amazon listed this when I bought it as Prime eligible, but I don't think it actually is. I ordered it at the same time as a bunch of other camping gear and most of it came in two days. The hat shipped from a different seller and arrived later. But the seller did pretty well shipping it quickly and it got here just a couple days later. Still, Amazon, you charge a fee for Prime, you should either uphold it or take this item off Prime status. UPDATE (30-May-2016): I took the hat with me on a short hike in 87F and humid weather. It doesn't really breathe much. I also tried to blow through the fabric from the inside of the dome area, and struggled to get any flow. But I'm not changing the rating because I think it's still great; crushable and water repellent, and the chin strap helped a lot with the wind. What I've accepted is that I'll ultimately end up using different hats for different situations; there is no perfect hat for all situations. This one is good for any wet weather and for sun. My old one is fine for cold dry weather. I'll probably need a vented third one for hot dry weather.

Lightweight sun and rain, surprisingly durable
I bought this hat 3.7 years ago. I've used it on many day hikes, camping trips, and a 9 day wilderness canoe trip in Maine. It has done well protecting me from both rain and sun. I used to bring separate sun and rain hats, but now just this one. I also have a fancier sun hat with a raincover tucked in the back brim. I prefer the Toggs because it is lighter and no need to fuss with getting rain cover on and off. I treat the hat fairly rough such as jambing it in cargo pockets and backpacks. I didn't expect the building paper like material to hold up well, but it has! My head is on the larger size, guessing 95th percentile. This hat WAS tight and just barely wearable. The building paper type material does not stretch. However about a year ago, I cut out the inside elastic headband. Fit is now much more comfortable, and as big bonus the hat is cooler in hot weather. Next one I buy, I'll cut out the elastic band on day one. If you wear the chin strap, the hat is pretty good in wind compared to other sun hats I've tried. Brims on other cloth hats tend to flap around much more easily than this one. The brim of the Toggs will move, but it takes a stronger wind and when moved it's more likely to stay in that position rather than flap.

I added a personal touch to my hat
Good hat. The elastic headband and adjustable chin string give a good fit. The camo pattern is classic Real tree. The Frog Toggs fabric is a blessing and a curse. In wer weather it will definitely repel water. In hot and dry weather it can be a bit much. I added 6 vents with a grommet set I purchased on Amazon. Now it's a great hate for sunny days.

I love this hat!
I bought this hat because I had a Smokies hike up Mt. LeConte coming up and the forecast called for the possibility of rain. Well it rained for the entire 7-mile trek up the mountain. Every piece of rain gear I had failed, to some extent, except for this hat. My head was the only truly dry part of me when I got to the top. In addition to the general rainproof nature of the hat, there are a couple more features I really like. 1. The brim is just the right size to keep rain from running down the back of your neck. 2. The sides can be rolled up and then secured with the drawstring if you don't want or need the big brim all around. 3. The crushable/packable nature of the hat is nice when it's not needed. 4. I have a very large head and the "one size" did fit all as far as I was concerned. It barely fit, but it did. 5. It's affordable. As for cons, well I didn't encounter any, but I can see two possible things that might affect some users. 1. There is a drawstring that can be used to make the hat fit a smaller head. I'm not sure how effective or comfortable that would be if your head is very small. 2. I cannot attest to the breathability of the hat. Others have weighed in on both sides of this issue, but I really didn't get to test that as it was quite cool on my hike up the mountain. I will say that my head was not "sweaty" at the top, so it is breathable to some extent. I just can't say how well that would work in warmer weather. All-in-all I love this hat. I'm thinking of buying a few more just in case I ever need another one. Buy it. You won't regret it.

I just put this hat to the test on a rainy west coast hike and it held up great. My head stayed dry, but the material isn’t rubbery so my head wasn’t getting over heated and hot either. All in all I like it, the only thing I would say is that it’s snug, which is good if the wind is blowing but I’ve had looser hats with adjustable bands around the top to tighten it. This one is also adjustable but unless you have a really small head I don’t how you would need to tighten it.

What a bargain this was. I have even purchased one for my fishing buddy. Doesn’t feel the best quality,, but time will tell. Fits well around my head very comfortably. Very light in weight. Provides great protection from the sun. Packs away very easy as the material is very light. Has that fishy look as well 8))
