If you're from the Bay Area and you went to a school dance, you know all about this...
I may not be the prototypical DJ defined with 2 turntables and a mixer, but I'm sure my audio collection would prove otherwise. Living and growing up in the Bay Area in the 80s, what kids were doing by going to birthdays, baptisms, weddings, weekend parties, you name it. Filipinos found a way to entertain their guests and having friends over was out of pure enjoyment and very natural. What started out as plain fun, turned into something bigger. Having lived through the era with lots of friends very invested in the culture of dance, DJing and some even MCing. I'm sure nobody ever expected it to ever become a class you can take at a university. If you grew up in this era or even want to learn about this movement, you'll definitely want to educate yourself.
