TOAD Handbook, Portable Documents (Developer's Library)

My company recently bought my new license to TOAD 10, and with that cost - I wanted to learn how to use this tool as best I can to increase my productivity using TOAD 10. The book arrived today - and I have been going back and forth between the software and the book - and I am learning things about what it can do - that do not stand out until you have them pointed out. So for me this is a worthwhile purchase.This is the 2nd Edition of the book (version 9.7 of TOAD), and it went to press in Sept 2009 as version 10 was coming out. So far I am not dissapointed and I expect to be more productive as a result. (TOAD is said to be the most widely used Oracle IDE there is on the windows platform).The book does try to speak to a large audience, from Novice to Advanced. So there may be parts that may seem elementary- I understand the need to have it in the book(it will have a large audience of users). The version of TOAD that I am using is the Developer edition, so some of the discussions that are for the DBA edition are interesting, however they are not available to use.The book is clearly written, with some attempts at humour that seem like a joke from a presentation style (It keeps it from being too dry a style).If you have not really explored TOAD and its abilities before, this will be a useful book and worth the purchase price. I think even the long time users might still get an A-ha moment.

I needed help to come up to speed on Oracle DB access with TOAD swiftly. This book was helpful (but think of it more like a Master's degree rather that a 10 minutes to expertise).If you are sitting in front of the TOAD application with book in hand, you will be well served. If you are at a dentist appointment in the poorly-lit waiting room, this book would not be so helpful.

This review is of the 2nd Edition, published September 2009. The version of TOAD it's written for (9.7) is a year old and the new version (10) comes out next week. I realize you have to have a product before documentation, but I thought with the book coming out now as the same time as the new version it would be written to include some TOAD 10 information. Release a book with the new version of the software, isn't that how it's usually done? The beta is public so we've known what is coming for a while but no such luck here.Don't get me wrong, the book is still useful, but not near as much as it would be if written for the version of TOAD we'll all be using by the end of October.

This is OK, but it didn't give me what I needed. I was both too novice and too advanced for this book, so I have no idea who this book is for. They seem to explain just the very obvious. It is sad that there does not seem to be a good book on TOAD out there.

This is probably a great book if you already know how to use TOAD, but want to know tricks and tips on how to use it better. This is not the book to buy if you're new to TOAD or SQL and Oracle databases in general, like me. I'm still glad I bought the book but will probably tuck it away until I can learn more about databases and pick up a beginner's book on TOAD.

It answered a lot of the problems I was having and helped me set up how it looks when I login.

a book that should exist in everybody's library. Can help you learn very fast the vast majority of the TOAD's functionality. I suggest it to both experienced and inexperienced TOAD users, no matter the version they use. Especially for the new users of TOAD it will be a treasure
