Anne Boleyn: The Tragic Story of Henry VIII's most notorious wife Hardcover – May 15, 2012

This is one of four books I bought to research Anne Boleyn for a program. I am so glad I can find a new book at a used price!

The book quality is better than advertised. Very pleased. Norah Lofts writes an accounting of facts with a slight editorial opinion. I read many books on the wives of Henry VIII and recommend this highly. Just so you know, it is not some fluffy romantic historical fiction.

This was my introduction to Norah Lofts and will serve to ensure I don't buy any more books under her authorship. I found the English Grammar/English Usage mostly appalling. The use of over-long sentences throughout the book before I felt I had to give up were irritating in the extreme. I found the text to be liberally sprinkled with innuendos stating her prejudices (?), which were certainly irrelevant to a supposed factual dissertation. She doesn't come close to her peers among historical writers I have had occasion to read recently. I have, then, learned something from my experience with her discussion of the life of Anne Boleyn.
