Challenging and Thorough
Thankfully, I'm a pretty good reader of notes. However, this book still provided me with comprehensive drills to develop my note-reading skills. The book is easy to understand and progresses naturally and methodically toward mastery in learning the fretboard.

Useful and unique
This is a useful and unique sight reading methodology because it separates pitch and rhythm reading. These are two different challenges and because of the way this book is presented it allows me to focus specifically on note reading practice.Every key is covered.Rhythms are covered later in the book but I can’t comment on that part because so far I have been only practicing the note reading studies.Another unique aspect is that the exercises are intentionally free of melody. This prevents you from learning by ear and keeps your mind focused on the task of actually reading. It also means that these exercises can be used repeatedly because unlike with more conventional etudes you won’t be memorizing or getting bored with contrived melodies. All the exercises are very much focused around the staff lines. I would’ve liked to have more material that drilled the ledger lines but overall this book is rigorous and challenging and suits my requirements well.

Not very good
After the first section, which provides some semi-useful information, the author has just listed pages of notes in different keys. There is no annotation showing which fingers or strings to play the notes on, and no tablature to clear up ambiguities about where to play a note. It's just notes. You've got no way of knowing if you're playing them correctly.

Exactly what I needed! Doubled my sight-reading speed in 6 days.
First of all, I have officially doubled my sight-reading speed in only 6 days using this. That sounds like a cheesy marketing statement but it's true. I just had to post a review of praise.I was starting to generate my own pages of totally random notes in Finale to practice sight-reading... but then I wondered if someone had already done this. Found it right away on Kindle, bought it, and am using it every night. Thanks to the author for putting this together. I love it!-Carl.

Great Sight reading book
I've struggled with learning to sight read… tried Berklee books, etc… I'm a bit lazy! When I saw "Joseph's Sight Reading Mastery of Guitar", I thought I'd give it a try.I have a couple of his other books so wasn't worried I would be wasting my time.I was right… the book is very clear starting out with recognising the notes on the staff, then applying those notes to the guitar and then he adds rhythm reading. The audio files that go along with the exercises makes it so much easier.Joseph gives tips the best ways to integrate sight reading practice into the daily routine of practice…Obviously it does take time and practice to become competent in reading music, but I'm certain this is going to give me a great start! So if you want to learn to read… here is a great place to start.Grazer

Great resource for music illiterates like me!
I’ve avoided learning how to read music and forgot most of what I learned when I was a kid learning piano. That was many decades ago. I usually learned guitar songs by ear like many others, but realized how wonderful it would be to translate those symbols on a page to music on my guitar. Just starting, so this book is the perfect resource for me! There are many exercises and words of inspiration to motivate me. The audio samples help assure me that I’m on the right track! Joseph is mindful of advising you to pace yourself and be patient so it’s not overwhelming. Great advice!

Good!
I am correcting myself on the subject with the help of this book. This is well written, covering the most important topics for sight reading. The only complaint is about the size of a full staff in the digital version, which is sometimes difficult to cover on small screens. Anyway, certainly worth a try!

Good Piece of Work
First 30 pages are a bit pedestrian (same old stuff) but from then on, all good exercises for practicle study til the end on page 115.

A kindle can't read PDFs
I didn't like that i can't really 'read' this book on my kindle. I got a message that it can't read PDFs and the music reading exercises are all PDFs. It was a useless purchase on Kindle.
