Learning to Improve: How America’s Schools Can Get Better at Getting Better

Promising Framework for Improving Education
This is a very promising framework for actually improving education. The critique of current reform initiatives that are implemented quickly but do not allow for capture of learning is spot on. The alternative presented is intriguing and has already generated much discussion among curriculum leaders in Maine. The six principles pull together a process that can guide a collective learning agenda. Wrestling the framework down to the ground to actually implement raises a whole host of questions but the ideas offered are a heuristic as opposed to a recipe - and that in itself is cause for cautious optimism that this is an approach worth exploring!

Excellent!
The authors detail a vision for improvement in education that is replete with concrete principles and tools. They show how to use these tools through in depth case studies. They note how education needs a paradigm shift if we are to achieve quality outcomes at scale, but instead of simply stating this...they painstakingly explain what this shift entails. As an education researcher, I’m energized by this book and am ready to get to work!

Best management book ever
And by management I mean everything - managing a business, a department or life. 6 small steps that are really common sense but frequently forgotten. This is a knowledge you can apply to anything.

Great Book
I needed this book for a graduate class. I usually dislike the books that we have to read. However, I really enjoyed reading this book. It gave me a lot of ideas on how to continue to develop as a leader in education.

Excellent summary of a decade plus of research
Excellent summary of a decade plus of research and improvement interventions. Easy to read and very informative. It should be mandatory reading for and new administrator or school-board member.

One of the best books on school improvement, extraordinary combination of research-based principles and practical cases
The wisdom and humility conveyed by the authors make this book a standout among so many others on the topic of school improvement. For anyone interested in what it takes to improve our education system on a larger scale, you are very unlikely to find a clearer, more useful, or more inspiring presentation of research-based principles and practical cases.
