Good... in the short run
I'm willing to give it two stars because this product DID work very well during the first few months of its life. I probably ripped 10-15 movies, which I was later able to convert to digital copies. (It's a combination of programs that allow you to do this, namely MakeMKV and HandBrake, and there are many tutorials if you want some guidance about what all the controls and specs mean.)However...In recent weeks, the drive stopped working. It clearly is getting power from the bus, and I can hear the disc spinning inside the assembly. However, the disc does not mount. (I'm on a Mac mini running Mojave, in case it's of interest.)The seller has an email address by which you can ask for some assistance. You can probably see it posted around the reviews section. He/she suggested buying a certain Blu-Ray Player app. While that's a fine tip, it is certainly putting the cart before the horse: no disc will mount on this player anymore. So if there is no disc, a player has nothing to read. And for that matter, HandBrake and MakeMKV have no source to pull from, either. For what it's worth, I've attempted to load different types of discs: CDs, DVDs and BDs, as well as data discs (i.e. DVDs containing files but not intended to be played). Again, nothing mounts. I have also attempted to connect through a variety of ways β the Thunderbolt port, a USB 3.0 port, two different docks going to each type of port.In fairness, Cloud Tale is offering a refund if I return the product, but I'm well past the return date. But that avoids the larger point: the bottom line is that you shouldn't sell defective products in the first place. Yes, I'll give the seller some credit for trying to make a bad situation bearable, which is why I'm willing to give a star back in the ratings.So... should you buy it? That's up to you. Consider a car that runs beautifully but for a limited time only. You don't know when nor where, but this car will decide to stop running. Would you buy it? Well, for a low enough price, you might. In the short run, it handles well, the seats are comfortable, and it has been proven to be extremely safe in all crash tests. And maybe it's a vehicle you need for one particular road trip β a family trek to Wally World. You take that trip, everyone is happy. Then one day, your car bricks on the side of a highway next to a band of coyotes. Of course, you knew this might happen, you accepted the risk, and you learn that the manufacturer is even kind enough to drive 200 miles out of his way to pick you up, and even treats you to a meal for the road. For the right price, yes... that would be a perfectly good deal.[By the way, as crazy as my hypothetical situation seems, the manufacturer of this drive is about as bend-over-backwards interested in making things right with the customer as the chauffeur above. You can see it in their response to every one-star review on here. Seems like they should use the energy they devote to customer service and channel it into quality control. Maybe it's a cultural thing.]Anyway, same basic idea here: perhaps you need an external hard drive because DVDs and Blu-rays are going the way of the 8-track, and you want to use your self-quarantine to rip your entire video collection into digital files. After that, you're never buying physical media again, so you should never again need an optical drive after completing this project. In that case, it's a worthy buy.TL;DR version: credit for making a product that works, no credit for making a product that lasts.

Drive stopped working after 4 blue ray movies in the middle of the movie
Had to paperclip the drive to retrieve the movie and tried to install this on multiple usb ports on many computers, Drive is not recognized anymore. So the Seller has been calling to change the ratings. The replacement drive worked for a single movie, let's see if it can get past 4 this time. I told her that I have been very sick and would review it when I was feeling better, but almost every day I have gotten 3 calls to make it a 5 star. "Honesty" "Integrity", this is a big part of the site, but being hounded to make a review 5 stars when there is a issue??? That makes it not worth using Amazon.com. I attempted to contact the seller about this but unlike EBAY.com there is not a Contact SELLER button for after sales issues. The sekker offered me 99% off to buy another drive so it cost me .14 and this time just incase this one also goes bad like the origianl I got the exteneded warrenty. As long as you leave a 5 star review the seller will not hound you. But I would have expected the seller to have understood, I mean the first one took more then 2 days to fail and with in a few days of me receiving it I start getting calls. The cord is way to short if it was 4" longer that would be nice, hey do offer an extention cord you can BUY for it. So they know of the issue. I raise my 1 star to a 3 due to the calls and hurried desire for a 5 star review. If you CAN NOT trust the review system on a site then the site itself is worthless. I am still sick and won't be changing this review.

Works like a charm on my old MacBook Pro (at least so far)
We keep family photography and video archived on Blu-ray disks. My 2011 Macbook Pro doesn't have a BR drive, and it has become inconvenient to use the drive on my iMac for long stretches, so I bought this for my laptop. Using this as a Blu-ray reader was utterly trivial; I plugged it in, the volumes mounted on the desktop, and everything just worked.Apple does not support the Blu-ray movie format in system or add-on software, but there are a few third-party solutions in the Mac App store. I tried two and ended up with Leawo Blu-Ray Player. It takes up to a couple of minutes to do the initial read on a movie, but it played the first two movies I watched flawlessly. It's free, but registration (not cheap) will allow making MKV copies of movies so they can be played from the desktop. This has one particular advantage: the player's read speed is only 2X, so fast forwarding becomes limited and uneven, while rewind barely works at all. Watching from the MKV copy makes for better response, instant start, and improved fast forward and reverse. The drive is very compact and light. The drive cable is very short and permanently attached. It stores on the underside of the case for easy storage and transport. It seems to run cool. It is a USB 3.0 drive, but plugging it into a 2.0 port works fine, just slower. The manufacturer suggests plugging it directly into the computer, but it worked when plugged into a powered USB hub. There is a adapter plug for USB-C in the box.On the flip side, the aluminum outer case does not quite fit perfectly, but it's not a functional problem and is hard to see. The drive is a little noisy, but not terribly so. Again, the slow read speed makes fast forwarding and rewind of Blu-ray movies a bit problematic.I have not attempted to burn any disks yet with either Toast Titanium or the OS X system software. After I do I'll add comments to this review. So far, I'm quite satisfied with this disk.
