Space Pirate Captain Harlock Anime Movie DVD

If I could, I would give this ten stars! One day I was just flipping through Netflix and discovered it. Never tried much anime before, but I thought I'd give it a shot while I was folding laundry. It took less than five minutes to get me stuck in the story, although my wifi connection made the graphics degrade. So imagine my excitement when I found it on blu ray!Where to start? First of all, the original voice acting is wonderful if you don't mind subtitles, and the space battles were an epic example of good CGI, as were the characters. For samurai fans, there's an excellent--if short--hand to hand combat scene. Really the only problem I had with it was that they didn't show enough of harlock, and that may be a breaking point for fans of the old shows. However the length is great for my fellow movie geeks who hate it when a good movie is too short. And I know some people like a movie that ends with most of the main characters dying, so let me point out that this isn't one of those films before I sign off.

Saw it on NETFLIX. Had to own it. Looked like it was also done in 3D so I looked it up on AMAZON. Sure enough it was here. Expensive for a 3D BD but worth it. Story was great. It had decent substance Even some character development...Even my lady liked it and she isn't in to animated movies (except ones like Disneys TANGLED and FROZEN). Animation was superb. 3D very good...Lots of really incredible depth but not much out of the screen pop-out. It didn't need pop-outs. The movie stands on its own in 2D but the 3D really enhanced the experience. It was interesting to hear it in the original Japanese, but the subtitles are mandatory, unless you understand Japanese or Chinese (It's dubbed in Chinese). The surround sound was all over the viewing area...Very good audio.It also came in good time and good condition. There was only one left, but if more become available and you like animated Sci-Fi that isn't drivel buy it.

While the space opera story line isn't new, It definitely has enough twists to be interesting. There is enough believability that it could easily be a a series, here in the US.That isn't the only reason. The animation was superb. Why, because the the animation is so life like that it is gorgeous and believably real. Gone is the square, chunky looking characters and choppy actions,. The picture depth is extraordinary. It is so beautiful you would swear tha again it was real. It is one of the few films involving animation and story line that I found it refreshing and worth buying. It is getting harder and harder to find in the US or zone ASo did I? Exactly, I have both the DVD and the Blu Ray of this film.The difference is only slight between the two. It is mainly in the volume and the sound.Personally, I would recommend this film become part of one's library.

Excellent CGI film. Amazing CGI, great action, storyline and pacing. While it is a sci-fi movie, the film does have a heart and soul and the characters feel real. I do wish they would have developed some of the other pirates though. Perhaps in a future film, whether a sequel or a prequel. Talking of the CGI, I was watching the Yullian character (Harlock's chubby second in command) and was thinking, "hmm, this actor must be wearing padding to make himself look fat". Duh, it's not an actor, it computer-generated! Bop myself on the head. That's how good the quality is. Of course there are other great CGI films out there like Tin Tin, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror etc. Harlock definitely ranks up there with the best of `em. Would also like to see an extended version of these film if extra scenes exist

This is the best CGI Anime I've ever seen. I own all the Star Wars The Clone Wars seasons on blu-ray and this is even better graphics than that. A good story line as well. This version didn't have English dub but did have English subtitles and awesome 6.1 Dolby surround audio.

why won't they come out with (SPACE PIRATE CAPTAIN HARLOCK) the (Bul-Ray 3-D in English version!!!!!) I've been waiting and waiting for them to come out with it.I think that they would sell like hotcakes It's such a great movie.I just hope that they don't throw making it in 3-D out the window it would be a big loss because of how great the movie is. 3-D would enhance an already great movie even more.

some don't like it because there is not enough harlock, I say this is the best harlock anime of them all, and I own every one. this is exciting, new, in 3D it's awesome. I haven't been this excited about an anime since I first watched Cowboy Bebop or Pueli Magi.

This movie is "tops" if you can get past 'toEnglish' translation missing the full context. I'm so glad I stumbled across this on Netflix. I was like: gotta… buy… for... collection...

Having just seen this, i must say, i really liked it. The 3D animation is some of the best i've ever set eyes upon, and the voice acting from the English dub is great. The story is functional, with some good 'ol twists you don't see coming. Characters are likeable with a few jokes thrown in here and there, and there's a LOT of space battles and action scenes in general.The Blu-Ray transfer is also very good, with a practically flawless image, barring some banding in very dark space scenes. Audio in DTS Master Audio is also robust, making good use of low frequencies and surround effects.Overall, i was impressed, and i recommend jumping on this release, there are so few 3D films out there.

Der Film sieht echt gut aus und diese Art von Anime, wollte ich mal ausprobieren und die Synchro ist ebenfalls gut. Aber dafür ist Story total langweilig, voller Klischees und überstürzter Handlungen.Am Anfang war die Story echt interessant und verhieß viel gutes, aber ab ca. 30 Minuten wird es langweilig, übertrieben und hirnrissig.ACHTUNG SPOILERIn den letzten 30 Minuten versucht man noch eine unglaubwürdige Liebesbeziehung einzubauen, Harlock verliert die Motivation zu kämpfen die durch drei Sätze wieder da ist, ein tragischer Heldentod wird dir vorgegaukelt bei dem ich sofort wusste das er Fake ist, Yama wechselt zum dritten Mal die Seiten, das Alien stirbt ist aber nicht wirklich Tod, Yamas Bruder Isora tut etwas das zeigen soll wie tief er gestürzt ist indem er etwas unverzeihliches tut. Wobei ich mir dachte ja klar, durch einen Satz bringt Isoras Frau Nami, ihn dazu sie umzubringen um nur im Anschluss zu sagen ich wollte dich nicht quälen, als ob ein Mord an der dir wichtigsten Person so selbstverständlich ist wie Kekse essenIch musste mich vorher noch nie so durch einen Film/Anime quälen wie hier, guckt euch stattdessen lieber Gras beim wachsen zu.

Der FIlme lässt sich nicht klar zuordnen, steht aber irgendwo zwischen Action, Abenteuer, Drama und Science-Fiction. Eine Space Pirat der ähnlich wie Robin Hood versucht gegen das Eteblishment zu kämpfen, für die Ehre, für die Menscheit und für den Glauben und das Recht. Dabei geht er gegen die gelebte Gesellschaftsordnung vor und verteidigt seine Ideale, was der regierung garnicht passt...Bildgewaltige Schlachten, Actionreiche Szenen und eine wirklich gelungene Story und die weiten des Alls... und das Ganze perfekt dargestellt in 3D!Perfekter Animationsgenuss und so wie das Kino der Zukunft aussieht! Klare Kaufempfehlung!

non conoscevo il personaggio di Capitan Harlock prima, solo per caso ci sono finito sopra questo film. Sono stato fortunato perché altrimenti mi sarei perso uno spettacolo. Una sorte di ribelle ed anti-eroe, ma leader saggio ed indiscusso della sua (straordinaria) nave e devastante in battaglia.Di solito non sono un fan dei film d'animazione ma questo è fatto talmente bene che non mi sono pentito. Peccato che solo dopo l'acquisto ho saputo che c'era anche in 3D....

Devo dire che una volta terminata la visione la prima impressione é stata quella di percepire una netta divisione tra il cartone animato originale e questo film. La seconda che subito ha soppresso la prima impressione, é stata quella di aver visto un gran bel FILM ANIMATO. Niente da invidiare a Blade Runner come pathos e come potenza della storia raccontata. Tutto é molto cupo, dark, i personaggi sono caratterizzati molto bene e si respira veramente la sensazzione di oppressione che si voleva trasmettere. Il Capitano non è protagonista assoluto, ma lascia spazio alla nave, al suo equipaggio, alla TERRA, bistrattata e distrutta, ai sentimenti che come una gigantesca onda pervadono la mente ed il corpo di tutti, generando sacrifici impensabili. Le scene, le espressioni, l'aria pesante e scura, sono dinamiche e rese con estrema cura ma senza riusltare troppo "perfette".Isomma gran bel film, già piazzato nella lista di quelli che vedo e rivedo spesso.

Captain Harlock habe ich bereits als Kind auf VHS gesehen. Damals war ich schon von Harlock, seiner Crew und seinem Piraten-Raumschiff begeistert. Durch Zufall bin ich auf die 3D Blu-Ray bei Amazon gestoßen. Und konnte kaum glauben, dass es einen modernen Anime der damaligen Serie gibt. Ohne lang nachzudenken hab ich den Film sofort bestellt und nach der üblich schnellen Lieferung (Danke Amazon und DHL) hab ich die Scheibe gleich in den Player geschoben, 3D Brille aufgesetzt und los ging’s. Der Film ist unglaublich toll gemacht. Die Story bringt ein paar Rätsel mit sich. Das größte Rätsel ist für mich aber: wie konnte der Film vor mir so lange im Hintergrund versteckt bleiben. Darauf habe ich seit langem gewartet.Und die Animation in 3D ist einfach nur perfekt. Wenn man daneben die alten Bilder von der damaligen Serie sieht (ein paar Szenen sind in den Extras) erkennt man erst den extremen deutlichen Unterschied zur modernen Version. Jetzt würde ich mir ein ähnliches Remake für Captain Future wünschen.Von mir eine absolute Empfehlung!

Ce film manquais à ma collection tout simplement parce que je pensais que je n'allais pas aimé , quelle idée !La voix du début ,n'est autre M. Richard Darbois ,Albator 78 ! J'ai apprécié ces scènes de batailles dans cette espace si coloré ,de nébuleuses et nuages gazeux .Le personnage d'Albator est assez égal a lui meme ,taciturne , il ne parle que quand s'est nécessaire .Le thème du film m'a fais pensé a notre présent : surpopulation et pollution .On vois quelques personnage de l'entourage d'Albator qui sont présent ,Kay ( Nausica) et Alfred ( passionné de maquettes ).Personnellement je trouve que s'est un excellent film avec de l'action , qui prend le temps de présenté les personnages .

Quanto mi ha fatto sognare Capitan Harlock da piccolo; non potevo perdermi questo lungometraggio.La versione cinematografica non mi delude, nonostante alcune critiche che ho letto in giro. La trama è rivisitata quel che basta per renderla coerente nello spazio (limitato) di un film e per questo non mi scandalizzo. Anzi, la compressione permette di concentrarsi meglio sui personaggi e meno sulla storia (che in una serie televisiva viene a volte un po' allungata, vedi Star Blazers per esempio).I personaggi sono forti e ritroviamo molto di quel che abbiamo lasciato alla serie televisiva, anzi alle due serie televisive che sono tra di loro anche differenti in qualche modo (ad esempio la forma dell'Arkadia di questo film è ripresa dalla seconda serie). Le relazioni e le tensioni che si creano tra di loro sono ben orchestrate da una sapiente regia e le emozioni non mancano.Certo alcuni punti potevano svilupparsi di più, per esempio come "lo spirito" dell'Arkadia sia legato ad Harlock e chi ci sia dietro: gli appassionati sanno chi sia, ma un novizio potrebbe non intuirli al primo colpo.Insomma, non perdetelo!

Wer einmal eine ganz andere Art von Animationsfilm sehen möchte und ein Freund von Science Fiction ist, der sollte "Space Pirate Captain Harlock" eine Chance geben. Der Film basiert auf einem japanischen Anime, dementsprechend geht es etwas ruhiger zu, was die Story betrifft. Doch die Balance zwischen wunderbar animierten Actionszenen, in denen das Totenschädelraumschiff Arcadia das Weltall durchpflügt und Dialogen sowie Rückblenden ist gut gelungen.Ich kannte den Film vorher nicht, deshalb war ich umso mehr positiv überrascht. Die ungewöhnliche Zeit, in der der Film spielt, war in dieser Form bisher noch nicht da. Die Menschheit ist über das ganze Weltall verstreut und weitestgehend allein. Eine Rückkehr zur Erde ist für so viele Milliarden nicht mehr möglich, doch die Kolonien sterben aus - die Menschheit beherrscht also quasi das Universum, driftet aber gleichzeitig auf das unvermeidliche Ende zu. Ein etwas hoffnungsloses Setting in dem Captain Harlock als Verfechter der Freiheit kämpft...Sicher ist "Harlock" nicht für jeden geeignet, man sollte schon ein Freund von Anime sein, da dieser Stil trotz allem einfach präsent ist.Fazit: Für Animefans ein Tipp! Außerdem können auch Freunde von Sci-Fi ruhig einen Blick riskieren!

Die Menscheit hat überral in der Galaxie Kolonien. Sie hat gemerkt das sie alleine in Weltraum ist.In den Kolonien sind die Ressouren fast verbraucht. Dann wollen 500 Millarden Menschen zugleich zur Erde.Nach einen erbitterten Krieg. Entsteht eine neue Regierung/Religion.Die Gaia Sanction. Sie erklärt die Erde als Heilig und als Sperrgebiet. Niemand darf die Erde mehr betreten.Captain Harlock kämpft schon seit 100 Jahren mit seinen legendären Piratenschiff die Arcadia, gegen Gaia Sanction.Er hat einen Plan um seine Fehler und die Fehler der Menschen rückgängig machen. Aber wenn er einen Fehler macht oder sich irrt zerstört er das Universum.Gaia Sanction will alles tun um ihre Illusion und Macht zu behalten. Dafür würden sie sogar die Erde opfern.Grafik von diesen Film ist wirklich top.Die Geschichte ist alt und nicht neu. Die kommt von einen Manga von den 70igern.Aber keine schlechte Umsetzung vielleicht ist der Film ein bisschen kurzweilig. Aber das mindert den Film überhaupt nicht.Einer der wenigen Filme von Japan wo nicht an der Syncronisierung gepfuscht worden ist.Achja .. was negatives wollt ihr auch hören.Die Mimik ist leider teilweise schlecht animiert finde ich.und der Schluß naja das wird es extrem unlogisch und najaSpoiler: 2 Captain Harlocks? najaEs find es auch super wie schlecht die Politiker wegkommen. Leider wie in richtigen Leben die können machen was sie wollen keiner wird bestraft auch wenn sie viele Soldaten und Schiffe opfer nur um ihre Macht zu erhalten bzw ihre Illusionen.Der Fim ist wirklich für Anime Fans ein Must HaveAber auch die auf Sci Fi stehen sollten sich den Film anschauen.Paar Sachen sind sehr unlogisch aber man kann ja nicht alles haben bis auf das Ende stört dies überhaupt nicht.

Der Film hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Zwar flacht die Geschichte in der Mitte des Films etwas ab, nimmt danach aber wieder richtig Fahrt auf.Die 3D Tiefenwirkung kann sich richtig sehen lassen und man hat den ganzen Film über das Gefühl, mittendrin zu sein. So muß das sein !!!Dafür gibt es von mir fünf Sterne und der Film, insbesondere die 3D- Version, sollte in keiner Sammlung fehlen.

Da fan della prima ora di Capitan Harlock ho aspettato molto a prendere questo bd 3D e mi ci sono approcciata con parecchia prevenzione...Ho visto solo il 3D, con vpr, perchè il 2d ad oggi non so come avviarlo (ma non c'ho dedicato tempo).Il 3D è molto buono. Buon senso di profondità quasi assenti e comunque mai memorabili i pop out.Nel complesso mi è parso un po' faticoso, forse perchè a tratti eccessivamente buio.Non mi pare del tutto vero il "mai vista una cosa del genere" perchè con Final Fantasy ci si era andati vicino e si parla di un po' di anni fa....Non faccio paragone con "il vero" Harlock perchè credo sarebbe per me impossibile non condizionarlo da nostalgia, memorie e soggetttività varie.La storia è buona ma ce ne sono di meglio a giro (a partire dal sottovalutato Ender's game) e, almeno secondo me, è un tipo di computer grafica che non aiuta il coinvolgimento emotivo....se si è fan si deve averlo e se si è fan...forse è meglio non vederlo, perchè si rischia di essere ipercritici...... ;)
