A disappointment from a legendary company
For a product from an established company, I really expected more. Sound quality is great. Noise cancelling on the other hand is very disappointing. The price is way too high for a feature that does not compete at any price tier. The plus is CODEC support, aptx. The supporting app is pretty much useless. The design is retro modern, which I like. Battery life is awesome, one charge lasts me 2 days using 10 hours a day at work. Sound quality great when using an amplified wired source.I would recommend getting just the Bluetooth version, same quality sound and look without ANC.

Novice to Novice.....read!!!
I waited 2 years to get these. They literally stayed in my shopping cart that long. They stayed at 199.00 for the longest. They are cheaper now. As a baby boomer the brand Pioneer meant you were getting a quality product that did not cheat you on the midrange and treble. These headphones deliver. A few facts you must remember. Wireless music does not pack the punch that corded headphones provides. Happily, I can plug these into my roku remote or alexa and enjoy even better sound. Being able to privately enjoy a movie is cool. Here is the bottom line: If you are a young person who craves loud sound that is heavy on the bass DONT BUY these. These headphones are more suited for the mature listener who wants to relax on jazz while enjoying the clarity of the flute playing. The free app will allow you to boost the bass plus tailor your sound with the equalizer. I don't care about noise cancelling. On the streets I want to know what could be coming my way...lol. oh yeah, the hey google feature works well. It's not a gimmick. It works. The frequency range of these headphones is better than the standard 20 to 20 hzs. All n all.....I give them 4 stars. They are a solid B to B+ product. I hope this helps!

Solid construction, great Bluetooth range
I wanted a physically robust headset with good Bluetooth range for teleconferencing calls (this is not an audiophile review). I owned or tried several other headsets before this one (Sony DR-BT50, JBL E50BT, Anker Soundcore Life Q20, V-Moda Crossfade Wireless), and ran into Bluetooth problems or physical disintegration with all of them. A lot of headsets rely on plastic bands being willing to flex indefinitely, but the plastic eventually crumbles. This Pioneer device is designed to flex. It has active noise cancellation, but I don't usually use it, because the passive cancellation is really pretty good, and obviously extends the battery life.Room for improvement:1. The controls could be better. The giant easy-to-find button is for Google Assistant, which I am a dissenter from. The power button is also used to switch among modes. The device always turns on in noise-cancellation mode; to get it into "just headphones" mode takes two more presses, which elicit non-obvious beep codes. The three-way volume-down/call-control/volume-up button is arguably too close to the power button, and arguably the middle call-control nub feels too much like the power button. These controls are much less convenient than the four-way rocker panel that the JBL E50BT had.2. This headset is not very nimble at switching connections. I use it with a phone, an Android tablet, and a laptop, and I basically need to disable Bluetooth on whichever two devices I am not using, and sometimes also need to power-cycle the Pioneer headset, in order to force it to connect to the device I want to use.Three months in, this seems like a reliable workhorse. Bluetooth range is quite good, battery life is quite good, and it seems like this headset will last years. Those are what matter most to me!

amazing sound quality.
I’ve always been a fan of pioneer but these headphones are even better than expected! As an engineer / and more importantly an audiophile. I always find myself wishing for more out of certain headphones and was very close to buying a $900 pair because I thought I couldn’t find a headphone pair in this price range that would have the sound range I was looking for. But with these I’m thoroughly impressed. They have punchy tight bass that is very accurate but also being extremely capable in transitioning to crystal clear highs as well. The noise awareness mode as well as noise canceling work great as well. These are by far the best headphones I’ve heard as a whole sound quality wise when it comes to very clear highs and mids while having very accurate punchy bass as well. Would definitely recommend. These are definitely for those looking for accurate / precise music reproduction not so much for bass heads.

Good sound, noise cancelling bad for wind
In all honesty, I had the cheaper wired model (se-ms5t) and those sounded much more balanced and open. But I decided to get these because they can do both bluetooth and wired and the se-ms5t cable is a bit fragile. The sound is a bit lacking in the high end, it's there but it's veiled. The noise cancellation is good for droning sounds but bad for wind/gusts. In the case of wind it will actually amplify it.Battery life is great, I haven't had to charge them since I got them and generally use them for a few hours at a time.Comfort-wise they're great. They could be better but these are light enough where it's not a problem.Build quality is also surprisingly good. The volume buttons suck but the rest of the headphone is very well built.I would probably buy another pair if I ever broke these.

Comfortable, great sound quality and battery. Okay noise canceling effect but good quality
Great product overall. Decent noise canceling but I would not call it noise proof. It’s just a lower volume of surrounding activity. It’s not very tide to wear and the sound quality is very good! I use it for night audio books or music and it can last more than a week for 1-2 hrs of usage each day.

Excellent
This is an excellent upgrade to the ms7bt, I can understand some people not being satisfied as these are somewhat bass-heavy but they are exceptional headphones. The sound stage on these is impressively wide and the imaging stands out on certain tracks (which I will list if I can remember them...).

Hidden Gem
I arrived at these headphones while doing research for a hi res apt hd headphone that have good sound quality and didn't cost a fortune. This is it, you will not find it for any less, and at this price is as good as it gets.

Highly recommended!
Love this headphone! My only minor complains are slow charging and not so great noise cancellation.

Overall awesome. Better than many pricier models, but ANC is definitely not best in class.
Audio is always something tricky as different people like different things. I personally love these headphones. The sound quality is superb for what you pay, especially when listening through a wired connection. They have a relatively neutral sound signature, which is how I like my headphones. Heavy bass lovers should probably not apply here, as while bass is present and well-defined, it is definitely not "boomy". Although it sounds quite good on its own, coupled with a good DAC, the MS9 literally shines, especially at higher volume. Make some light EQ adjustments in your player of choice, and it will sound even better. Add some very light processing (some players have functions like a crystalizer with varying levels of processing) and the amount of details it'll give you will be out of this world. It is a joy listening to classics like Pink Floyd on these, the small details in the sound really come to life. Soundstage is medium-narrow, so don't expect many "out of head" experiences, although they can sometime happen.I upgraded to these from the Pioneer MS7BT, mainly to benefit from the APTX-HD codec over Bluetooth (the MS7BT only supports regular APTX) and this makes for a slightly more precise sound. Noise cancellation is not that effective though, so if your main reason for buying this model is that feature, I'd say there are better alternatives out there. But as someone who listens to a lot of music while walking outside, the "pass-through" feature that lets you hear a small amount of sound from the outside is interesting, as it still allows you to hear a bit of what's around you. Pioneer also fixed an annoying issue from the MS7BT that had the volume buttons change tracks with a quick press (volume adjustment needed a long press). They reverted that and it's much more usable now. Also, note that all the features like noise-cancelling, pass-through and google assistant are only available in Bluetooth mode and don't work when wired. Oh, and the built-in microphone for calls is useless. Don't hope anyone to understand you if you're in anything other than a completely silent room. This is mostly for listening to music.Battery life is quite awesome. You can easily get around 24 hours of playing time, even with special features (ANC or pass-through) turned on. But note that charging is done through micro-USB (come on Pioneer! Why isn't this USB-C?)As for build-quality, I found them awesome. A lot of headphones of this type (and in this price range) often feel plasticky with squeaky parts, but these feel rock-solid, have a decent weight, and the metal sides are a nice touch. they really feel premium, and are super comfortable. I can wear them for hours. The fit around my ears is great. Now that being said, if you don't care about APTX-HD, are ok with a lesser lasting battery and no features like Google assistant, you may want to look at the MS7BT instead, which shares the same base DNA, for less money. Both sound terrific, especially with any genre of rock, metal, folk, prog, etc... But if you prefer boomy stuff, you might not find these to you tastes.
