Coiled Designs for Gourd Art

The book covers coiling with fiber rush on gourds. I don't use fiber rush, but the author provides a lot of great information for using fiber rush to create beautiful coiling with waxed linen or other wrapping materials. Ms. Devine also illustrates and discusses incorporating design into the coiling, whether it's sculptural draping of the coils, using a variety of coiling stitches or design patterns. Although my material of choice to coil on gourds is pine needles, and I wouldn't conceal them using a wrapping method, there is a lot of inspiration in this book for those who do coil with exposed pine needles.If you love to coil on gourds with different materials, this would be a great book to add to your library.

I was lucky enough to have taken a coiling workshop with Catherine, and thought I didn't need the book...but then I thumbed through it at a friend's house and realized that I NEEDED this book. Coiling seems easy enough (at first), but just when you think you can be more creative with your design you realize that there is a trick to getting a professional appearance. This book is like having Catherine right there with you, mentoring you along the way. She gives clear direction and the close-up photos make a huge difference when you are wanting to put the needle (and thread) in the right place between rows. The gallery of coiled art is breath-taking and inspirational. This is a marvelous book and a must have for basket-weavers and gourd artists alike. Thank you Catherine, for making this book for us.

Am an amateur gourd crafter and found this book easy to understand and informative on achievable coiling techniques. Inspires your creativity. Great book to add to your arts and crafts collection.

I bought this to try and teach myself how to coil. It's informative and shows great potential for future projects. I think I'm just a little slow at figuring out the directions. Then again, I haven't spent hours on hours practicing. I bought one as a gift as well. Arrived on time, was happy over all.

Great book. Lots good techniques for preparing the gourds and pine needles as well as embellishments. Many suggestions for creative designs. Love the finished pieces as well.

This book and its many pictures has given me ideas on how to create more interesting gourds. I don't necessarily use the exact directions or ideas, but it inspires me to be more creative.

I got this book last month and have, just today, completed my first closed coiling on a gourd. The instructions are very easy to understand and all the great close up photos are so helpful. I am now ready to start my second coiled gourd as soon as I finish with this review.

This is a great book if you like to coil in gourds, it shows how to use different colors together and different patterns too.

Ce livre est très intéressant avec plein de modèles originaux. Il y a un pas a pas pour faire une gourde, très facile a suivre avec beaucoup de photos. Impossible de ne pas la réussir et les autres modèles sont superbes. En fin de livre un éventail d'autres artistes avec leur référence ce qui nous permet d'aller visionner leur site sur internet. Les idées ne manquent pas.
