Concise Advise for an Eco-friendly Lifestyle
An awesome read! Clark has condensed, prioritised and explained a huge and diverse wealth of information. The result is an ordered and highly accessible book, which expounds the salient facts upon which the reader can make informed lifestyle choices.Clark is a consultant environment editor for a national newspaper. He has succeeded in transferring his journalistic skills in making this material balanced, substantiated and unfailingly engaging. This is not to claim no bias exists: A strong case is made for the top environmental priority to be a low 'carbon footprint' (reducing emissions of mainly carbon based greenhouse gases, which cause global warming.)Issues from travel and toxic waste to deforestation and dairy products are clearly explained, offering the reader both informed choice and pragmatic solutions. The science behind the issues is neither unnecessarily complex or patronisingly brief. The answers are sometimes surprising, yet well justified.A lot of work has gone into providing valid comparisons of personal cause and effect on the environment, essential to establish the relative merits of one's behaviour. This topic is to often muddied by emotive manipulation of figures, but Clark is accomplished at sorting fact from fiction.Rather than leaving the reader feeling depressed at the depravity and destructiveness of mankind, this is a deeply absorbing and highly practical treatise. Buy this to receive a large dose of reality and to be empowered to make a crucial difference for the better!

Brilliantly educational
I am particularly interested in the green issues surrounding food and the chapter in this book is the best I have read on the subject. The arguments are laid out clearly and the conclusions are often surprising. I went on to read the entire book and can recommend it wholeheartedly.

Authoritative, accessible and brilliantly complete
The Rough Guide to Green Living is full-on miraculous: a book that tells you why you should care about the future of the planet, then gives you all the information you need to go out there and do something. In a fresh and fuss-free style, without a hint of sermonising, author Duncan Clark gives you the lowdown on everything low-carbon, eco-friendly and energy-saving: which lightbulbs to choose, which food to buy, how to insulate your home, how to choose an ethical bank, plus tonnes more practical, no-nonsense advice. What forms of transport are the greenest? (You may be surprised by the answer.) Is organic all it's cracked up to be? (Not as straightforward as you might think.)But nor does he sidestep the global issues that concern us all: what does "ethical" actually mean? Does recycling matter? Can individuals really make a difference? When it comes to climate change, there are few easy answers, Clark argues: but that's why it's up to all of us to make intelligent choices about the way we live. The Rough Guide to Green Living is that rarest thing of all - a book about the environment that makes you think as well as act.
