glad I got this version because it on it's lower ...
I am a young 27 year old athletic type, but this last year have had some issues with my breathing and had to figure out what was wrong. Turns out my Lung Capacity dropped 15 percent the pasts few years, I am guessing due to not strengthening my lungs, plus asthma which I have always had. Opened it up and did a session, glad I got this version because it on it's lower setting was a perfect building start for me, even when I didn't have asthma symptoms growing up, I always noticed I didn't have as much stamina as normal kids and I had to push harder. I have been using the Butyeko breathing method to increase my level of C02 in my body which leads to better breathing, so one of the main reason I bought this is because it helps not only strengthening lungs, but also helps increase C02 which in turn will open the airways, so anyone with any type of respiratory issues, this should be a peace to your healing. I will let you all know how I am doing in a few months with this, studies show that it can increase your FEV1 and lung capacity 8 percent in a month.

Expensive and just okay
I work with patients who can benefit from improving expiratory muscle strength. I find that this product needs to be used carefully to avoid ear issues due to pressure exerted while blowing into the unit. We are addressing this by modifying the inhale/exhale procedure by taking the mouthpiece out in between. For simplicity's sake, I like the EMST 150 expiratory muscle strength trainer. It is simpler, less expensive, and less bulky, and the one that I see recommended during clinical presentations. A benefit of the Powerlung product is that there is a range of products, with the orange one possibly being more suitable for those who are less strong. However, I found that from a customer service perspective, getting product information from the Powerlung people took a lot of work -- they simply point you back to their website -- and their follow up was terrible. I am not confident that my patients would be able to get assistance from Powerlung without considerable frustration, and thus will continue to use the EMST 150 when that product is tolerated.

Breathing for Health.
I believe that this instrument will strengthen the muscles I need for healthy breathing. Somehow I think that the pressure I have set changes overnight, and I have to re-set it. I do not see that as a big negative - takes little time to reset. It is easy to use, and if used as recommended, it will be a big help in the way I deal with my breathing.

Breathing better.
I have been using the Power Lung for about a month. I am 70 years old. I have severe asthma and pulmonary fibrosis and four months ago, I was interviewing local hospice companies at the request of my pulmonologist. I am on 6 liters of oxygen for walking but now down to only 3-4 liters for talking and doing light activity. My pulmonologist is OK with me using the Power Lung to strengthen my breathing muscles and my diaphragm. When he examined me last week, he said "you look good, you sound good. You are good - not normal, but good." I am just beginning to see results of better and more comfortable breathing as well as the ability to move around more actively and be less tired. I am still on the lowest setting but have been able to advance to almost the level of 2 on the inhale and 1-1/2 on the exhale. I am still not using it twice a day as recommended but am working toward that goal. I will follow up with another update when I have had more experience with the Power Lung.
