Increase your calcium hardness. Been using it for year's works great, and cheaper than the pool store. If someone at Amazon would tape the lid closed it would be nice.

It's cheaper to buy sidewalk salt by the bag, but this is the best dispenser I've used. So, I pour from the bag into this and then use the lid/dispenser to spread the salt. It is also a good size for carrying.

Over the last two winters, I've found that Prestone Driveway Heat does what it claims, as long as you follow the directions and purchase in sensible amounts.Probably the 2 best things about the product are the fast action and the lack of chalky residue. When you toss it on snow and shallow ice, you can actually hear the crackling begin as the pellets begin to work. If the temperature is above +25°F, you should see cleared wet pavement and walks within 30-45 minutes. And that's the other part - clear. Unlike traditional salt products, you don't end up with asphalt just this side of white when it dries. This is especially helpful when used in parking areas that are paint-striped, as this gives a much better opportunity to see the stripes later.As others have noted, only buy what you think you'll need. I generally start a winter season with 4 jugs, and if it's a particularly heavy winter, I'll just get more as needed. The 50-pund bags may cost less per-pound, but they will not store long-term and will allow the pellets to clump and fail sooner. I flip up the cap and pour the pellets into an old plastic margarine bowl to spread outside, and I will then keep the jug inside the door and refill the bowl as needed when cleaning up after a snowfall. Even a stray drip from a roof icicle can finish the jug prematurely, so the less you have to bring it outside, the better.Like any snow-melt/de-icing product, use Prestone Driveway Heat in moderation as directed on the label, and you'll get the desired results.

The product is very good; I am very pleased with it. However, when I opened the box containing the ice melt, one of the containers was broken and the product was all through the box. I was able to scoop most of it up and put it in a container I had so not much was lost. Also, I did send a note to the shipper and informed them of the problem. Regardless of the above problem, I would definitely recommend this product....it gets rid of ice and snow FAST.

Have used this on my blacktopped driveway for years. It works perfect when I need to de- ice the driveway. I also like how the cap on top of jug has a built in shaker to help spread the product.

I’m an older lady so it’s important that it’s easy to use. It does an excellent job.
