Fukep Kitchen 5" Damascus Utility Knive
I received my Fukep Kitchen 5" Damascus Utility Knife a week ago and am very happy with it. The fit and fine details are very well executed in this handsome knife. The ergonomics allow safe and easy use even with wet or greasy hands. The blade arrived extremely sharp and holds an edge well. The Damascus etching is tastefully subtle and adds an elegance that makes kitchen work more enjoyable. I consider this knife a perfect companion to prepare meals for three to four people. I suggest to the manufacturers that some cost be diverted from the throw away box that it came in, and allocated to a simple safety sheath.

Very impressed for a steel snob
Very good paring knife. I'm a complete steel snob and this has all the hallmarks of VG-10. For the money it's unbeatable. Fit and finish are spot on. I look forward to many years of use with this knife.

Made in China. Not bad, but not fine quality
This is a review of the 5" utility knife:This line of Chinese-made knives do not have the quality of Japanese-made knives. Having said that: At this price, you should not expect fine quality. It--very visibly--lacks the finesse and the fine workmanship of the Japanese knives. It does not measure up to even the bottom line of the better-known Japanese knives. Does not measure up to Wusthof knives either.Comparing same-blade-length Japanese and Wusthof knives to this one, I found this to be noticeably heavier. The heavier handle creates a slight unbalance. And the blade itself is slightly thicker, too. This is not necessarily a bad thing: I like the lighter weight of my Japanese blades, my husband, (who does not want to use the expensive Japanese knives), is comfortable using this one. I don't think he really notices the weight. I do know he is more comfortable with this Fukep line because of its price. My main gripe with this knife is one I was able to fix with my sharpening skills. The edge of my knife blade was wavy. (Looking at the silhouette of this blade, I saw the sharpened edge dipped in two places.) And the blade angle varied considerably along its length and each side. It took me about 20 minutes to fix it--even it up and resharpen it. If you don't have a sharpening tools, you may want to pass this by.With the Fukep knives, you get a resin handle that mimics some Japanese knife handles, but I can easily see the difference. The inlay on the middle rivet is done rather well. All three rivets lay flush with the rest of the handle. It does show off its Damascus steel layers, but the pattern is dim and not striking. The AUS-10 steel is durable. Because it has a high quantity of carbon steel, you need to was it and dry it promptly. Only hand-washing for this blade and do not let it air-dry. The 9 to 12 degree double edges do make this a very sharp blade. If you have only worked with cheap knives before and want to start improving the quality of your knives gradually. This is one way to do it. (You will NEVER go back! Only forward, believe me, you won't regret the money you spend for upgrading your knives!) Also get educated about sharpening blades. Buy a sharpener or whetting stones and practice on a blade like this.

Excellent knife!
The quality of this knife is everything I expected from a VG-10 forged blade. The handle is top notch, and I expect this knife to last me many years. Glad I made this purchase!

Excellent craftsmanship, not sharp out of the box
GOOD: This knife is well built and the level of attention to detail is what you would expect at this price range. The handle is a joy to hold and the is well balanced in the middle of the blade. The handle does not feel bulky or overly heavy and the blade looks great. The packaging is very nice, though should not affect the performance of the knife so will not be including that as part of the overall rating. At 5'', the length is an awkward length between a true chef's knife and a smaller paring knife but is perfect for fruit or smaller veggie prep on smaller cutting boards.BAD: I was shocked that given the attention and care to creating this knife that mine came out of the box far duller than I expected. Clearly other reviewers have not had the same issue and I hope it was a QA issue but I found mine laughably dull (I could run my finger up and down the blade without breaking skin) and could not even use it to peel an apple much less cut through a few baby tomatoes. Fortunately I spent about ~15 minutes on my whetstone and had it ready to cut through about anything in the world, but for the price, you should expect this to come out of the box ready to cut through everything like butter.

Great knife for the money
Received this knife was very happy with fit and finish. Its not lazer etched, its actually demascus.I hacked the knife into moose antler to test edge retention, and no edge damage after 10 hits. Still cut a tomato just fine.Im happy.

Well made and extremely sharp
This review is for the Fukep 3.5 inch paring knife. I have previously purchased and reviewed the Fukep 5 inch utility knife as well. Both of these knives have impressed me with their quality of construction and the sharpness of the blade. I find the shape of the handle fits my hand very well. I was initially concerned that the handle might be slippery with wet hands but have not found that to be an issue. There is some heft to these knives which is something that I prefer and which you might expect with a forged knife versus a stamped blade. Although I tend to prefer a utility knife over a paring knife, I think that the smaller blade of the paring knife is useful too. The quality and appearance of these knives rivals that of much more expensive options. Highly recommended!

Sharp with a comfortable grip!
Came with a teeny nick in the blade, otherwise very happy with it. A wet stone will get it smoothed back out no problem. Fantastic for the price! Very sharp! Quality metal. My stainless kitchen aid knives get marks from my hard water and this cleans perfectly every time. Easy and comfortable grip. Definitely recommend!

Weight, balance, sharpness
A little on the heavy side, but well-made and incredibly sharp. I have not been using any of my other utility knives since I got this one.
