Another great color
My all time favorite ink is El Lawrence. This is a nice variation on the “used motor oil” color used to describe El Lawrence. It’s not nearly as dark but it’s a fun color.I use it for note taking. Doesn’t dry super fast and is not very waterproof. Best on something like Rhodia or other paper known to be fountain pen friendly. Not a great choice for someone new to fountain pens unless it’s to explore but it makes for a fun alternative to the typical black and blue.If you do “wash” it, the green/brown goes away and only light purple remains.Has never clogged any of my pens and so far isn’t difficult to clean up.According to Nathan Tardiff who created it."Rome Burning” has a bulletproof patrician core color of Caesar’s purple with the colors of the inferno that wash away from it with excess liquidity. As it dries there are shades of brass that can actually shine on some paper grades and can halo the darker core when using the right nib/feed combination. On very absorbent cellulose paper the patrician core can be seen in the center as the fire surrounds it – as if an eclipse of the sun.”

Love this color!
It writes as a gorgeous kelp/yellow brown and if soaked in water the yellow floats off and only a deep royal purple stays. It's an anti-forgery ink but it's also great for art!!As always the product was just as described and noodler makes an amazing ink that stays consistent through the bottle doesn't get funky and flows perfectly.

Nice, sepia-gold color
As folk have pointed out, this ink does not start out purple, it only gets that way when you soak the paper in water. I mean you really have to get the paper wet so the yellow runs and it looks like the letters are on fire. Hence the name. For such a dark purple after it gets wet, it starts out a really light sepia. Personally, I like it, and it's always cool telling folk I have color-changing ink!Something more practical I discovered is that it works fairly well as a gold wash. I have been painting some miniatures lately, and, since I don't have any gold paint right now, I had to mix my own, with varying results; the first time came out fine, the second time was too yellow. Well, I just went over all the gold with one of my Parker pens with Rome Burning in it, and it looks fabulous. Note, if you get the ink on the paint wet, it just washes off; no color-changing action; or at least not the type you might have wanted. Also note, if you go this route for "painting" minis, you are going to want to have put down at least a light base coat of paint, as the ink will just ball up on bare plastic.

Definitely a go-to ink
Somehow I expected Rome Burning to be a bit darker, yet the light bronze-sepia is quite pleasing to the eye. The ink does very well in both vintage and modern pens, flows smoothly.

Yes it's metallic-ish, but it's also ugly and the bottle is overfilled
I'm a sucker for a novelty ink! Sure as not, when a nice wettly written sheet of Rome is Burning is dying it looks like boring brown but when it's bone dry and examined in good light there really is a small metallic shine to it, and with no glittery particles I can see floating around in the ink. I wet my paper to see if all the hype is real, when wet, the broze/brown will run and your strokes will remain but in purple instead...hahahaha!So the Positive here is this is a UNIQUE ink and something you want if you like novelty inksThe two Negatives are these: The jar of ink is, as usual with Noodlers, filled to the brim, making it hard to open without spilling and even a little challenging to get my first pen fill-up done without a displacement problem. The other negative is that, even though the idea of a metallic ink is cool, it's just BARELY that.. without inspection it just looks like dirt brown, and not a pretty shade of it either.I will be using this on letters to my ink-appreciating friends, and pointing out what to look for, then putting it in the back of the ink-bottle drawer for the foreseeable future.

Love this ink
This is an interesting ink. I love writing with it, it flows smoothly in both Lamy and Monteverde pens and leaves a nice line. It dries reasonably quickly, and I say that as a southpaw. This is one of Nathan's bulletproof inks, so it is resistant to the tools of the forger. The color is golden in nature with a purple "patrician" core. The core color will disappear on drying, but will reappear if the ink is exposed to water or solvent which will wash away the gold and leave behind the purple. It's become one of my favorite inks.

Noodler's "Rome" is rebranded.....
Found and to my liking the old stand-by "Rome Burning" has by some mystery been re-branded to "ROME." Yup...new label... same ink. Who can figure. The Rome played a big part in this illustration, and I can see why. While working with 2 colors of ink and bleach on C/P watercolor paper the Rome alone added to the mystique. As I look at the illustration I can only wonder when the tornado will come. The movement of the sky and bleach is what presented a quick rendering with Noodler's Walnut to tell a story.

One of my most interesting inks !!
I absolutely love this ink. It is a kind of brown, but with so much more character. It is not your average brown, but gives a vintage type look and feel. I will always have this in my collection. Noodler's Ink is such a fantastic value for your money with a huge selection of colors. I love, love it.
