This book has saved me so much! It’s not easy to evaluate staff and this comes in at perfect timing

The process of writing 25+ performance reviews annually is daunting. This book was very helpful this year. I took the time to bookmark my favorite pages and highlighted my favorite phrases. When struggling with the right words or phrases for a review I can quickly find help.

All the basics, good content for manager training programs- easy to read, great practical advice. Well organized - addresses the role of manager.

Having been a manager for so many years, you sometimes just run out of ways to tell long-time employees the same thing each year....especially those consistently hard-working employees. And offering constructive criticism is not a walk in the park either. This book gave me ideas on how to properly phrase what I was trying to communicate during the review process. There is a scenario for just about everything you'd cover in a employee review and it was so very helpful when I knew what I wanted to say, but wasn't quite sure how to write it clearly. I recommend this to any supervisor that can use some ideas with wording when writing employee reviews.

The most useful section of this book is the performance appraisals section. It is similar to military evaluation writing guides. Bullets are given for each area. Each potential area rated has bullets that fit a 1-5 scale. I have issued one of these to each of my first line supervisors to help hone their eval writing skills. The biggest down side to this book is the lack of emphasis on cause and effect statements or supporting data for evaluations. However it is a good start for those who have never minimal experience and the cost is justified.

Excellent book to use when completing evaluations on staff!

I dread writing performance reviews. This book makes a difficult job so much easier. It not only provides useful phrases but sparks other ideas regarding performance issues. Spend the money, it will save you time and frustration!
