Fantastic book, everything you need to know plus loads of photos, the perfect record of a decade when sportscar racing returned to where it was in 1971. I cant praise it enough

Great, detailed summary of this period of Le Mans 24h endurance racing. Huge amount of pics & facts.

This is a fabulous book. It takes me straight back to 1983! It gives excellent detail about all the competitors.

This official history and overview of the Le Mans 24h races in the 1980s is likely the most comprehensive book fans of the legendary race will get for many a decade. It features descriptions of the sporting fates of each of the competitors, positions lists for every hour of the race, as well as illustrative images of the cars. The texts are well written, and convey the important elements of each car's story without becoming repetitive or formulaic. The book is, however, not perfect. The desire to be comprehensive has forced some practical concerns to the forefront. Not all stories are equally compelling, and some of the images of the cars are rather mundane. The limited number of photos for all but a few entries (usually just one) also means most photographs show the front, side or 3/4 view of the car. Fans of complex rear bodywork are not going to find much to cheer on here. Information on the qualifying sessions is also limited. Most baffling, considering this is an official ACO approved publication, is the preponderance of Imperial measurements. Sometimes (but not always!) miles per hour are also given in the international standard. No such luck for the measurements of the cars, which are inevitably described in feet and inches and no consideration is made for the - again - international standard. Since there are no localized versions of this publication, this serves as the book for a worldwide audience. Given this, the choice for the Imperial measurements is inexplicable.

Ce livre est fantastique, 384 pages de bonheur ! Une vraie mine d'or pour les passionnés des 24h, avec une description parfaite de chaque édition entre 1980-1989. Les règles pour chaque édition sont communiquées, ainsi que les classements complets, le tout accompagné de textes et photos pour décrire chaque équipe et ainsi que leur course. Je recommande très volontiers.

Glad I bought it. Great book

For real Fans of the 24 Hours of Le Mans this book is an absolute must have! What I love most is that this book not only provides information about the races itself (who won which class and so on, we all know that of course) but rather all the additional information like regulation-and track changes for each year, all the calamities and sidestories of every single team in the race, charts with additional data from drivers and manufacturers titles and more....THAT is the real key reason to have this book! Additionally to the vast amount of information it is the writing style of Quentin Spurring that makes this book so exciting. Almost every team 's fate in the race is described so well that you'll get the impression you are reading a diary of someone directly from the team. The atmosphere and drama of the race is definitely palpable for the reader. In short: There are racing history books that cost twice or thrice as much, with half the content or excitement. Perfect package. If there is one criticism: The texts for the race course itself might be a bit short in length for some people. at least i thought that sometimes. But don't despair! The team reports for every single car clearly make up for that.

This volume is one of those rare books that is thoroughly enjoyable by both casual Le Mans enthusiast, and the die-hard sports-prototype racing fanatic (such as myself!). For the more casual reader, the text with each photo will be informative without being "boring" (though how racing can possibly be bo.....sorry, I digress!), keeping interest up from cover to cover. For the more informed and dedicated reader, the above-mentioned text is NOT lightweight and "fluffy," making it enjoyable for them as well. And the accompanying charts and tables make each years race clear as a bell. And the detail in the lists and tables is enough to keep us (me again!) more rabid fans happy. This book has not stayed on my bookshelf for more than 2 days straight since I purchased it. And the topper for both casual and die-hard fans is the photography. Every shot in this book is first-rate. The composition, focus, subject matter.....all are exceptional. The photos are superb, and finish this volume in a way as to make it totally enjoyable. I have just finished ordering the 1970-79 volume, and plan to acquire the rest of the collection as I can fit them into the budget.
