Heads up
Warning! This is an information posting. If you are looking for the "Little Women" mini-series, recently shown on PBS, then this is NOT the correct one. This is another British version that was done in 1970. If you want the PBS version, you need to search for "Masterpiece: Little Women."

Simple and elegant Little Women at it best !
At last Finally available on DVD ! The 1970s BBC Little Women is a touch British and a bit old fashion but this only adds to the charm of this wonderful adaptation of the Alcott Book. Unlike all the previous film versions before and sense this one does not have any famous actors that you know , so the March sisters stand on their own personality and the viewer is not distracted by previous performances of known personalities.I love all film versions of the of Little Women and each offers their on special take on the story and gives the viewer something special to take away. This version charm is that it is done in England and a bit of the Old World is present and gives this one a innocent charm and the viewer feels as a if he has stepped back into the 1860 rather than a Hollywood version of the period. All the actors did a splendid job in capturing each sisters special quality without duplicating any previous performances.A must see for Little Women fans and anyone who loves a lovely visit to the past.

Waste of time!
A poor rewrite of Alcott classic. Harsh actions and uncharacteristic behavior. Character of Father present much more than really existed.

Not anywhere close to the best adaptation...
This version of Little Women was pretty awful, and I'm usually very tolerant when it comes to movies. The acting was bad, there was no character development. Amy and Jo spent the first half of the movie yelling at each other. I did like the actress that played Jo, but she had this odd accent--not quite British, but not American, either. They did spend a little more time developing Amy's character as an adult, which most other versions do not, but it wasnt enough to rescue the movie. And Mr. Bhaer looked like he was wearing a bad community theater costume. If you're a fan like I am, you'll buy it and watch the whole thing anyway, and cringe throughout at how dreadful it is, but be forewarned.

Unusually arresting portrayal of Beth.
I'm surprised this version is not better known, because the performance by Sarah Craze as Beth is so poignant and memorable. We all know that Beth is sweet, but she is so much more than that; and in this version she comes across as deep, sensitive, refined, somewhat lonely, conscious of being overlooked but unwilling to say anything about it, and a bit prickly -- just a hint of the temperamental musician. There is a haunted look in this Beth's eyes; the book says that "to Jo alone did the shy child tell her thoughts." Were there things she couldn't tell even Jo?This version has a stuffy BBC "Upstairs, Downstairs" qualitiy to it; but that evokes the austere quality of the book. It could have used a stirring musical soundtrack -- but only Ralph Vaughn Williams could have written one worthy of "Little Women," which is itself a joyful song in a minor key.

Not like the book!
a pathetic low budget production. ridiculous acting/directing. the DVD itself was perfectly fine, worked well, good seller. dont watch this terrible film though

Quality of picture and acting performance.
Not at all a good film of Little Women! I can't imagine anyone being satisfied with it after having seen others.
