Remote is a dud once the light enclosure is even an inch under water.
My pool light power source is all the way by a corner wall, so I really loved the idea of having a remote to control the power and as a bonus change color! Wow, this is exactly what I have been looking for. Even after reading reviews about the remote not working I decided to buy it. So I clean my enclosure thoroughly and even got a new gasket. Pefect, everything is set and it's time to give this thing a run. I turn the power on and decided to test the remote. Now all the tests I did with the remote was before I submerged this in water. It worked perfectly and I was so happy with my purchase, till I put the light under water. Once I screwed the enclosure on the wall the remote will not work at all no matter how close to the light I could get without getting the remote wet.So, I decided to do a little test and slowly bring the light up to check at what level does the remote start working. The remote did not operate until glass part of the enclosure was above water with the remote about a feet away. As soon as the enclosure went inside the water the remote won't work. I understand the factors that would weaken the signal and you could probably find an angle or a position which would make it work. I tried many different angles and positions for about 30 minute. No luck. The only positive thing that I would say about the product is that it doesn't rely completely on the remote for you to be able to change the colors. You can the switch it on and off at the main power and the light will go though all the different color modes. The trick is to wait about half a second after you switch the power off to turn it back on. It worked perfectly for me.The other thing that worked was putting the remote in a water proof ziplock bag and then bringing the remote under water real close to the light. But there is always a risk of water getting in the plastic if the antenna pierced the bag. Can't they figure out a way to make the remote work more reliably even with the light being under water? Maybe keeping the receiver antenna at the front of the bulb where it has more open exposure to the outside? Maybe use multiple antennas? How expensive can that be? Isn't this one of electrical engineerings known problems that has a solution? As far as the brightness goes, red was the worst. It's almost like you are in a darkroom processing your negatives. White is basically a combination of multiple led colors lit up at the same time. The one I liked the best were the shades of blue and green.I would say the overall price of the product is a little bit much with all the issues you have to deal with not working right away. Also, why 23A???? why not an array of AAA to get 12V? I don't need a drawer full of different batteries in my house!

Nice Light
The remote works from about 15 feet away, any farther than that and it doesn't respond. The 7 different colors are great. Overall, I give the light 4 stars, it loses a star for inconsistent programming modes on the remote. My only complaint at this point is that the different light modes are confusing and don't seem to be logical. It's easy to change to any of the solid color settings, but the rest of the remote is strange. You can cycle through all the modes but they do not match up in order of what is printed in the instructions so you have to test each mode to find the cycle you want. The additional modes on the bottom of the controller make no sense either. I tried to select 7 color gradual and it worked through the first cycle and then went to jump and then did some sort of crazy strobe of all the colors cycling super fast before going back to gradual. It kept doing this over and over even though the button clearly stated that it was a 7 color fade, not a jump. The other 4 pre-programmed button modes seemed to do the same thing. After playing with those 5 buttons at the bottom of the remote, I finally decided to just cycle through using the MODE button until I found the 7 color fade I wanted. In addition, you can only slow down the changing of the colors to around 10 seconds. I really wanted to have the colors slow to change maybe once every five to ten minutes or so. Also, the colors do not go in any particular order in the 7 color mode. You may start with r, g, b, c, p, w but then it will skip between the colors from then on, maybe cycling 2 or 3 times with some colors but only once for other colors. I noticed that yellow would appear infrequently. Also, the display time of the colors was inconsistent. Blue may appear for 10 seconds, but green would only appear for 6 seconds. The changing of the colors was inconsistent no matter what mode I used or how fast or slow I chose. This product would be 5 stars if this issue could be fixed...

Good lights, useless remote
Bought these to replace 2 500W lights put in when the pool was built. The original lights were very inefficient and the switch was all the way on the side of the house and I wanted to be able to control the lights using my phone. So I bought the C by GE smart toggle switch to replace the existing manual light switch but it wouldn't work with the old lights (too much amperage) so I needed LED lights ASAP. Bought these as they had decent reviews.Switching them out was easy. I have Jandy lights and simply removed one screw at the top of the light. You don't have to drain your water, but be sure to turn off the breaker to the lights. The light popped out (they float!) and there was enough slack in wiring to put it on the pool deck and do the switch out.Once done, I reinstalled and turned on the power. Good to go!! Well, sort of...I had an issue with the smart switch but that's not the fault of the light. Anyway, figured it out and all works now.As for the lights, they are bright...seem at least as bright as the 2 500W lights I had before but obviously WAY less wattage at 40W each. Went from 1000 total watts to 80 total watts. No complaints about the lights at this point, will see how they hold up over time. The remote as many others have stated is pretty bad though. You'll have to work with figuring it out but it's safe to say you won't be sitting on your deck and pressing a button to change colors. For me, one light changes if I stick the antenna in the water right next to the light and the other requires me to walk to the light switch (makes no sense). Anyway, I'd like to see a design that has a longer antenna designed to go in the water to get it right next to the housing - that would likely fix the problem.Overall though I would recommend!
