Kokoro Connect Volume 1: Hito Random

I couldn't be more excited that we're finally seeing an English release of the light novel series that inspired my favorite anime series. This first volume was excellently handled and brought back that same rush of emotions I experienced the first time I saw the show, and also brought in some elements you can only get in book form: the dialog is as punchy and fun as ever, but the excellent narration is an experience you can only get here.Coherent and interesting characters who actually grow; immensely human drama; realistic romantic development; clear story beats; and just a touch of magic. What more do you want? Get it!

I would wager that most people aiming to buy this light novel have watched the anime. In fact, I'm the same way. So let's start from there.What's different from the anime? Well, the characterization. Their language patterns and speech is completely different from what you would have seen in subbed anime. Inaba is extremely vulgar, for example. I'm not exactly sure if this is actually faithful to the light novels in japanese, but I understand that localization is something that mostly falls on the translation crew and they make the changes as they see fit.There's numerous times I considered that the language and the manner of speech was off, but that's just because I came predisposed. If you do not have that same background, you probably won't find anything wrong with it, other than, as I said, vulgar language.I wanted to give this a three star rating, I really did. However in the end, the original work pulls through in massive ways by giving a lot of extra characterization with inside monologues and extra descriptions that, for me, make this a book worth reading even if you have watched the anime.And it's a fairly short book as well, so there's that.

Kokoro Connect truly excels at characterization and dialogue. These characters sound like genuine teenagers, and their interactions are a joy to read. The original writer deserves a lot of credit, as does the translator and editors, as the dialogue truly shines. On top of that, the story in this series is compelling and easy to get into.

Great translation of a terrific light novel. My only dislike is that there's no physical release for the English translation.

En cuanto lo vi disponible supe que lo queria. Soy fan de la serie gracias a la adaptacion al anime de esta misma obra y deseaba leer la obra original. Quiero decir que fue entretenida y valio la pena leer la obra ya que hay algunas variaciones contra la adaptacion sobre todo leerla desde la perspectiva de Yaegashi le da un plus quedo a la espwra del proximo volumen.
