It does take some effort. But, it grinds spices beautifully and is easy to clean. The bowl is deep so the spices don't jump out. It is heavy so it says steady. I do supplement the small cushions on the bottom. I am concerned that it could scratch my counter, but that is probably over kill. I love it and will recommend it to others.

The mortor is heavy enough to stay in place when in use which is also long enough and heavy enough to do the job. You have to scrub the inside before using it for food/spices and it comes with instructions on how to do it. I can mash up my foods with ease now and I the quality of this is just what I needed

A little bit on the expensive side

This is my first time with a Mortar and Pestle set, so I was a bit apprehensive about how to use it. Luckily, this one came with great instructions on how to season and use it! Super heavy-duty, sturdy, and I feel will last a lifetime.

Didn't realize pestles and mortars were so complicated! When I took it out of the box I was surprised it was so dusty feeling, but luckily there are directions with this one about how to prep it. Both pieces are heavy, extremely study and even more attractive in person! Used it to make a taco spice blend I've been making for years but using this the individual spices blended together so much better than just mixing in a spice jar. Additionally, I used it to make guacamole (again, a recipe I've used many times before) and it turned out much more evenly mixed than when I used to just mash in a bowl with a fork. Extremely happy and satisfied with this purchase! ☺☺☺☺☺

Bought this beauty and it works like a charm although cleaning it in the beginning, was tough, it truly is amazing. Made cream cheese cut out cookies last night and my daughter crushed kosher salt she had a blast wouldn't let me crush anything lol. It makes crushing things fun. Haven't made much in it yet but when i do I'm sure I'll have just as much fun. Mash not smash when you use the mortar and pestle it will jump out if you smash.

Been wanting a mortar and pestle for a while. Thought this one looked nice so I went for it. Fast shipping (received it within 2 days of ordering) and it looks very attractive on my kitchen countertop. Very clear and easy to follow instructions on how to treat it before using it which I thought was great. It crushes and grinds really easily and smoothly and the shape of the bowl prevents the pieces from flying out which I'm happy about. Five stars thanks
