Toilet Awareness: Using Montessori Philosophy to Create a Potty Learning Routine
J**
Short, sweet and to the point.
Very fast read, I’m a slow reader and I read it in half an hour. Great info, to the point, definitely felt respectful and Montessori aligned. I feel motivated and encouraged to start potty training my toddler in the next couple of months!I’m a little annoyed that the book is so expensive despite being so short, but not annoyed enough to not recommend the book. Everyone with young children should read it, I just wish it was half the price it is.

Simple and quick
Bought this for a parent who asked for potty training advice. At first I was shocked at how small it was. But as I went through it, I’m glad it is. A big book can feel overwhelming. This is quick, simple and to the point.

Good but no instruction about nighttime
Straightforward, easy read in <30min. I was disappointed the author neglected to mention nighttime routine for toilet learning. (I assume kids still wear diapers at night for a while?) Sad she didn’t explain this aspect of the process.

Short but a good introduction to toileting
Pros: concise, clear language and directions. It is a very simple Montessori inspired introduction into the idea of toileting and gives good, albeit short, tips on how to begin the process.Cons: definitely more of a pamphlet than a book, in the words of Larry David (for any Curb fans out there.) I finished it in approximately 12 minutes or less. Not sure I would recommend paying $12 for this but I also want to support the author so who’s to say what’s right! Doesn’t really get into many troubleshooting options or protocol (do you always make the child go in the bathroom or can you drag the tiny toilet around with you so as to avoid accidents in that 30 second walk to the bathroom?)Overall, a good introduction to the philosophy behind toileting; easy to comprehend, but just a bit too brief. That said, any other book that is 100+ pages about toilet training seems daunting and annoying so I will give it a shot regardless.

Short enjoyable read
I knew a bit about toilet learning but felt like I needed more information. I enjoyed that this book had a different perspective from others. I did not want to do rewards or punishments so it’s refreshing to read a book that agrees with me. We are starting toilet training tomorrow and I feel a lot more confident after reading this book.

Best Toilet Independence Guide
Parents and caregivers who have access to Sarah's simply written Toilet Awareness will find it most valuable as they navigate the challenges of introducing toilet use to their children under three. It is short, concise and backed by the training, experience and observation of her many years as a Montessori Assistant to Infancy. I find it to be very useful in my guidance of parents and nannies at my parent resource center. Learn how to allow your child to gain independence in the toilet process while understanding that your role is to offer the proper environment . Perfect baby shower gift when offered with cloth diapers and underwear!

A start...but no troubleshooting
I think the only thing helpful about this book was the setup of the potty in the bathroom. I took my 17m to the potty and have her outright fight it the whole way. This was a toddler who wasn't against me putting her on the potty every now and again and was interested in how we went to the toilet. Once she woke up in the morning, I was determined to make this method work...I brought her to the potty, I said..."today you are going to use the toilet from now on" and she went on it, but didn't go...and became squirmy within the minute. I put underwear on her...for about 6 hours, all we had were misses and major tears each time I took her to the potty, I even gave her the "choice of potty or adult toilet"...I put her on the potty after she woke up from her nap and she fought it. The underwear was dry. With no support from this book except..."be patient"...I gave up and put her cloth diaper on. The rest of the day felt like a toilet tyrant and failure. For the price, it wasn't worth keeping this book or even buying it in the first place.

It actually works...at least for us it did!
I was a bit skeptical at first, but my daughter (33 months) took to the strategies in this book right away. I was going to complain that it's such a thin book for the price (22 pages in all), but actually I'm impressed because it really did work for us. I think it's worth even more than the listed price because it made training so much less stressful for everyone involved. I tried to toilet train my daughter a few different times before getting this book and she was just not interested, but once she was given independence in the bathroom, she trained within a day. Accidents do happen at times, but really not that often. And, just for insurance, we have the Dappi nylon covers over her undies (most of the time) which are a lifesaver when there is an accident (I have her in a size down and they hold tight on the leg and keep everything in!). Now, I'm lending this book to my friends and advising them to buy Dappi nylon (not vinyl) covers as well. :o)

Básico
Es muy sencillo pero cubre lo básico. Incluso trae ideas para comenzar a enseñar a usar el baño desde la etapa de bebé

Short but on point
It is a short book with clear lists with ideas stating what you will need and the things to do. Maybe it could have some more practical examples but I think it’s pretty good.

Too expensive
I found this "book" to be too expensive considering that the information in it is widely available on any serious Montessori blog and the edition itself seems very cheap to print.

Just ok
Quite short and not super informative, it is quite a thin book.
