Excellent tool for wood carving
I have a lot of wood working projects that involve wood carving. I use carving discs with an angle grinder for the heavier work, 1/4" burrs with this die grinder for the intermediate work, and 1/8" burrs and a Dremel for finer work. The DEWALT die grinder is comfortable to hold and very effective with wood carving. Importantly, the effectiveness of this tool is largely determined by the carving burrs used. I use Kutzall burrs because they cut smoothly and have long life spans. If you use cheaper burrs, you risk the tool "skipping" along the carve site, vibrating excessively, and burning wood (as the burr dulls). This die grinder combined with a Kutzall burr is my go-to for lighter volume wood removal. I have no complaints and would buy this DEWALT die grinder again, if ever needed.

performed great !
I purchased this tool, after using an old Craftsman, I picked up in a yard sale, gave up life in a flash of blue flame & sparks ! I was right in the middle, of opening up a hole in ceramic tile to replace a shower valve that was leaking ! I have many other DeWalt tools, so I had little reservation in ordering this, I read many of the reviews, and some complained that it did not obtain high speeds, this tool is not a race car, but, one must remember, the bit in the chuck does the cutting, not the speed ! I liked the speed it ran, and the paddle switch with the option to lock in the " on " position ! My only complaint is, I wish they would have designed some type of " holder " for 1 wrench, and added a botton to press to lock the chuck down during a bit change ! Other than that, I am happy with it, and it is another fine DeWalt product !

Looks good so far.
My unit is “Made in the USA with global materials”. I am interested in the 1-1/2 inch diameter because I am trying to do a cut of a bushing of a lower control arm of my Ford pickup. The bolt in the bushing is seized and major surgery in a tight space is necessary to get the bolt to release, and a guard would make it very difficult to get in there to do the cut, so I wanted an 1-1/2 inch cut off wheel and am leaning to the Lenox 1972914 MetalMax. That wheel is made of steel encrusted around the edge with diamond, and that seems to be a sturdier material than some of the compositions used in other wheels. Somewhere I had read that the Lenox wheel is limited to about 10,000 rpm but another review of the wheel specifications shows it is good to more than 40,000 rpm. Robert Hart’s helpful reply to the reason for the “1-1/2 inch” part the die grinder’s description means I should not have to use a guard to do the cut. This has been a real education in terminology for me, with “mandrel”, “arbor”, “shank”, and “collet” being freely thrown around in sales and discussion literature.

Good for the money
Needed an electric die grinder, This seems so far to be a good choice, a bit weak under load and strong pressure, but does the job well.I restored my 1979 F250. repaint etc and anybody who has a P/U well knows the inner panels can be more crusty, I bought a variety of brushes, grinding attachments and extensions for this tool with a straight nose, made easy work for me, yet as noted is not as powerful as others
