Product description NEW Combo BLUWAVS CD and FLAC FILE .com Here's one for you: How many ways can you slice and dice a bluesman's catalog? Rounder already has Texas Swing, a generous 17-song (out of 20) sampling of Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown's two early-1980s gems Alright Again! and One More Mile--and both original albums are still available. Now they've shaved the running time (and the price accordingly) to give listeners yet another, more-affordable option. The real attraction here, however, is the addition of three smoking live cuts: two from 1985's Real Life (also available in its entirety) and one 10-minute romp through "The Drifter," recorded in 1982 and issued on the obscure 1992 compilation Strike a Deep Chord: Blues Guitar for the Homeless. Truth is, you can't really go wrong with any of these options, for Brown's assured vocals and razor-sharp guitar (and occasional fiddle or harp) always impress, whether on slow and gritty 12-bars, horn-fueled jump, or fleet-fingered swing. --Marc Greilsamer

Worth Every Penny, a compilation of work from the Rounder Record's Period.
I had reservations about what I was going to get out of this compilation of 'Gatemouths' work's. My reservations where reinforced when in arrived in a loosely wrapped with one blank white label, and one with name of Cd and in caps NEW. As I took disc out it was fouled with small pieces of fine white powder.Well the only one of those that interests me these days is talc and I got plenty of that. I blew the forever unknown powder off with a fine air dusting spray I buy from Amazon, disregarded the fine scratch's and slapped on the cans. Picked up the booklet that came with it and began a journey filled with not only with the great sound of 'Gatemouth' s music, but a great bit of information about the early part of his career. Some of it I knew, some I guessed based of other Southern Blues Player's of that era.The booklet is one of the more informative not only giving all the musician's data, but all the data from the album's songs origin, but how these Rounder Record's in the 1980's introduced 'Gatemouth' to the East and West Coast , by then I had left THE EAST VILLAGE on the East Coast and was enjoying all the West Coast finally landing in San Diego., Mr. Hadley who writes the liner notes mention's one San Diego musician who was influenced by 'Gatemouths' music was Frank Zappa. San Diego in later 70's early 80's was a Navy town, and the general population was so small that all the musician's knew each other, the same was true with all other groups. Which I never imagined how I would long for those days some day. I am some what in awe the area I live in today is known as the East Village, a. it is nothing like the East Village was in the 60's and 70's, b.it is nothing like it is today either, c. I think it is humorous as much as things change some don't.For fan's of "Gatemouth', or those getting into his work grab this while you can, the great liner notes by Frank-John Hadley are some of the best most knowledgeable on Jazz and Blues I had read since the 1960's -1980's.A worthwhile addition to a blues lovers collection.'

Great Album
I'm unsure why "Gatemouth" does not get more recognition. He is a unique talent, great guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, writer, bandleader, singer. Who to compare him to ? T-Bone Walker, perhaps ? Any blues lover will like this album and style.

Gatemouth Is Special
The first time I heard Gatemouth was in 1952 as a 7th grader. His 78 rpm record, "The Okie Dokie Stomp" was on the cafeteria jukebox, and it played over and over and over again during the lunch hour. Then a few years later I was lucky enough to get my own DJ show on one of the local Galveston radio stations. I chose "The Okie Dokie Stomp" for my theme song and it stayed with me for as long as I was known a Brokenhearted Bill.Gatemouth must be in his late 70s by now, but his style with a guitar has never been successfully copied. Many have tried. If you like the blues, Gatemouth needs to be included in your collection, and this CD is a good place to start.

Rare Gatemouth: the "lost" early 60's sides.
This cd is a little gem. If you are a true fan of Gatemouth Brown, buy now. The album is a collection of recordings made in Houston in the first half of the 60's, for small labels like Cue, Cinderella and Home Cooking, and are not found anywhere else. The sound quality is surprisingly good, and the album just does not get 5 stars for the lack of any data or other discography . It is a perfect complement to Charly's San Antonio Ballbuster, which brings together Brown's next sessions for Chess. The music ranges from blues to country, with some atmospheric guitar instrumentals in the spirit of the season. Listen to the samplers, and if you like it buy the CD from Charly too.

Do not know when it was recorded
This Cd has two photos: one from the 50s and other dated 1974. Besides nowhere in the CD you will find when was it recorded. The sound is not really good.
