Good Buttons - Hold Tightly
These buttons are very good and fasten together very tightly as long as they’re fastened correctly. The locking pin must be inserted perfectly straight into the button shaft. As others have mentioned, the tool that’s supplied is terrible. I found it much easier to create a small hole in the fabric (in my case denim), then manually push the fastening pin through it, being sure to fully expose the pin by pushing any fabric to its base. I then visually aligned the button, and slowly compressed the two parts together using Vice Grip pliers until they were fully fastened. I placed a small piece of cloth on the button head to avoid scuffing it with the pliers. Keeping the two parts aligned perfectly straight is the most important part, and you must be very careful not to over-tighten them or you could bend the button head. If you choose to use a hammer, I’d start very lightly, check for a straight alignment, and repeat. I would not recommend attempting to hammer the button onto the fastener with one hard shot. It all sounds much more difficult than it was. I found the process to be quite quick and simple. It’s also worth mentioning that these button heads are closer to 16mm in diameter than 17mm as stated.

Perfect, cheap and durable.
Since, it seems, no manufacturer that makes pants I can afford can sew on buttons that stay attached, this is excellent to have around. The instructions do mention that if the fabric on the garment has been badly damaged, a piece of cloth might have to be applied to hold the back "Nail." That has never been the case in my experience. In fact, the only added difficulty on one pair of shorts was removing the failed Buttoneer stubs, which took many attempts to attach and lasted less than a week as fasteners and an eternity as failed reminders of a really useless product. These worked the first time. I've ordered more... an all too rare product that is cheap, well made, and works perfectly.

Working as expected, easy to attach.
I fit these button to a pair of jeans for use with a set of suspenders. I pierced the fabric first with an awl which made the installation easy. I used the supplied tool and a pair of channel locks to squeeze the two parts of the buttons together. The two parts went together with only moderate pressure required and they have remained firmly attached through several days wear. So far these have performed as expected.

This made my day!
Great product! Don't throw those jeans away just because the button breaks. I was skeptical, but when I tried this on a fairly new pair of jeans that I was heartbroken over that the button fell off, I got to wear them within minutes after I used this product. Where was this 20 years ago? Been wearing this jean for months now on a weekly basis with no problem. I'm happy! I now carry it in my purse in case a co-worker or friend may need it.

Complete garbage. The first one went in ok
Complete garbage. The first one went in ok, but got bent a little in the process. Still, it was in firmly. The next 3 all got toasted as the sharp pin-piece bent over while trying to hammer the button end in. Now I'm short on buttons while my pants have holes in the waist while I decide what to do next.

Wasted 2 buttons trying to attach per instructions
Wasted 2 buttons trying to attach per instructions. I found success finally with these 2 steps. I used an awl to poke a decent hole through my pants where the button would be located. Then I used a pliers to squeeze the 2 components together rather than a hammer. The hammer just didn't work. Once I figured out the best way to attach the buttons, I was very pleased.

Easy to use
Follow the directions and you will have no problems. Once in place button stays in place. Saved a pair of jeans.

Worked great
Easy to use and seems to have solved the problem of the regular buttons on my denim shorts breaking or coming loose. As another reviewer stated, the little plastic tool that comes with the kit is ineffective but it is also unnecessary I had no trouble attaching the buttons without it.
