a good book for TSD students
As a learning aid for students taking TSD classes, I highly recommend it.I bought this book 3 years ago when I was just starting TSD and have referred to it regularly since. The reason I'm writing the review is because I have been looking at it to help me learn Bassai (2nd Gup) and figured that a review was overdue. The first third of the book (78 pages) covers what you need to know at every level: the history of TSD, techniques for striking & blocking, how to move, warm up techniques and so on.The rest of the book, 150 pages or so, is laid out in chapters to show the requirements for every belt. The chapters contain step-by-step guides (words & pictures) to the forms & the principal one steps, and applications for the moves. Of course, every TSD assocation has its own requirements for every Gup but in my club's case what is laid out in the book has corresponded very closely to our needs. The book is well-written, clear & has lots of photographs. The title of the book is 'complete manual - from white belt to black belt'. As the advert goes, it does what it says on the tin.
