Awesome book!
Only regret is i can't get this in hardcover or oversize. Todd is awesome and the art within is so cool. Of course most of the book has to be about Spawn but fans of marvel and dc will also find satisfactory. Must-have for fans of Todd or just great talent. Buy without hesitation.

Very impressive
A very impressive volume (even if it is a paperback version) with tons and tons of Todd McFarlane's distinctive artwork throughout his career.

the spawn of a legend
As soon as i picked this up i knew i was on to a winner, charting the rise of one of comic's genuine legends this book is a gem and contains everything you'd expect or want from such a book. From early sketches and submissions to his first published work the art work is chock full of accompanying text and comments by mcfarlane making this more like an illustrated bio...it shows how his art was indiscernable from most other artists of the time and you can see when the todd mcfarlane style started to come about.the real good stuff kicks off at his tenure with marvel especially his meteoric rise to fame with his run on spider-man and this starts at roughly halfway through the book. the spawn section was the biggest draw for me and todd even acknowledges his partner in crime greg capullo and even includes some of his work!the real surprise was the inclusion of the mcfarlane toys empire ,his videogames animated series and the movie even giving us a glimpse into an as yet unreleased second spawn animated series .

Fantastic Book!
Stunning book at insane value, absolutely packed with McFarlanes best work including his very early work before he became the comic book icon he is today. Any comic Book fan would love this book, sets a great benchmark for coffee table books of this kind and well worth the investment for any collector, comic book fan or budding artist. Do not Miss!

Amazing artworks with inspiring commentary from Todd McFarlane
The media could not be loaded. The Art of Todd McFarlane is a visual autobiography of the comic artist, master himself. It's quite a book to behold. It's a seriously inspiring book. You'll learn about the effort he put into drawing from his schooling days, to the getting his first job and then creating companies like Image Comics and McFarlane Toys. Besides that he has also included the many side projects he's involved in, such as creating music videos, concepts for animation and movie, video games and more. This guy sent out 700 submission letters to comic editors and received hundreds of rejection letters, and collected all the critiques to improve himself. And he actually counted the number of submissions sent?! That's determination, and the quality of his work shows. This guy is the accumulation of talent plus hard work. The artworks showcased are amazing. Very well reproduced, printed big. You'll see his early works, in pencils, ink and colours. The accompanying commentary provides insightful background to the work, and his career progression. He has worked for Marvel, DC Comics, so those works are included as well, as his many Spawn comic art. You'll read a lot about what goes on behind creating comic art. This book is available in hardcover and paperback. At 400 pages thick, I'll recommend getting the hardcover but I've yet to see the binding on the paperback. The paperback is much better and may be a better bargain for the price though.Highly recommended.(See more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)
