This newest novelization of the X-Files gave me goosebumps!
I would like to start by stating that I thoroughly enjoyed this latest novelization of "The X-Files". While I would still rank "Ruins" as my favorite of the six novelizations of one of the world's favorite television series, this one certainly ranks up there. As I read the book, I could see the plot easily transferred into a two hour movie version of the series. With his first novelization, author Ben Mezrich (reportedly hand-picked by creator Chris Carter to pen this novel) does an excellent job of creating an X-File that is part scientific (for Agent Scully) yet paranormal enough to fire the interests of Agent Mulder. In the end, the reader is left with some blanks to fill in and the storyline does not completely resolve itself, the hallmark of a true X-File episode. The plot itself maintains a steady pace with enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested, yet does not confuse with too many diversions. Likewise, the characters are written to describe them physically, and yet insight into their personalities and motivations are provided mostly from observations of their actions and their words. The reader is not buried under paragraphs full of endless streams of consciousness rife with the motivations and desires of each character. But we are permitted almost as much a glance as perhaps is afforded Agents Mulder and Scully from their interactions with these characters. The agents themselves are characterized true to form. The author seems to feel more comfortable with the Mulder character. He describes his feelings of excitement and almost delight over the possibility of an X-File puzzle to explore, as well as providing us with plenty of witty "mulderisms" to produce a smile and giggle. Agent Scully is portrayed as more a slave to science, as well as to humanity, who seems to generally tolerate Mulder's forays into the unbelieveable, but does not dismiss them totally. Their well-oiled partnership, filled with trust, support and respect, is portrayed well in this novel. However, "shippers" beware, this novel has been deemed "noromo" safe. From the streets of New York City to the jungles of Thailand, Ben Mezrich has taken our favorite duo, as well as their reader, for a spine tingling ride, guaranteed to give your skin goosebumps.

Whether a diehard fan or a casual X-Files watcher, this book is for you!
I’ve been watching reruns of the X-Files during the pandemic and falling in love again with the classic series. After pretty much watching the entire series, I was looking for more X-Files and came across this book. If you in any way, shape, or form love the X-Files, pick this up! It reads exactly like an episode while paying close attention to character details and plot line. The entire time I could picture Mulder and Scully speaking the words written on the pages and the constant struggle between scientific facts and belief in the unexplainable. Pick this up if you want that nostalgia that made you fall in love with the series in the first place. Also check out the other books by the author - fantastic attention to details while truly appreciating the characters and idea of the series.

If you like the show, try this!
If you're an X-Files fan and a reader, then this is one of the best of the many X-Files novels that have been released over the years. The story and the idea behind the story are really interesting. The usual conspiracy that floats around the agents is there, just like in the TV show. There is plenty of mystery surrounding the plot. That the agents go through things they wouldn't have gone through in the TV show is also fun! I like thinking about them in a different way like that. Though, a lot of the time, they don't really act like true blue fans of the show have come to expect them to act. It's not always easy to put Mulder or Scully's face or voice with the character on the page. I think that sort of thing is to be expected, though, when you're seeing them through a written format instead of visually on a screen. This is a fast read with action that gets started right away and doesn't let up. It's a fun sci-fi/mystery with horror elements even if you're not a big fan of the show. Highly recommended!

Book Goes South and Doesn't Recover
I finished this a few weeks ago and was disappointed. It's not that Mezrich isn't a good writer; he's probably the best of the bunch among the X-Files novel adaptationists. Here's where things go south in Skin. After Mulder and Scully get Skinner's permission to go to Thailand to pursue leads, it seems that the detail, atmosphere, and grittiness, which Mezrich does a great job of setting up, are largely tossed out the window. In Thailand, the atmosphere seems forced, the villians cardboard cutouts, and the plot preposterous. Also, if you were a fan of Mulder's wry humor, there's little if any of that to be found here.Kevin J. Anderson's novelizations, while not perfect, remain true to the spirit of the TV show.

A must read for all X-Files fans
This by far is the best X-Files novel written to date. It is a classic "monster-of-the-week" that had me sitting on the edge of my seat. The story is well written and consistent with several X-Files themes. The characterizations of "leaps in logic" Mulder and "skeptical" Scully were right on the mark. While I would have liked a little more "shippiness," the tale is true to Mulder and Scully's relationship - the subtle touches, private conversations, and concern for each other are naturally integrated into the plot. It is clear that Ben Mexrich is an advid fan and devoted follower of the show.Chris Carter - let this man write an episode!

Couldn't`put it down
I've been a fan of The X Files since the 90s and I'm still hooked on the TV series even now. I've read a couple of other X Files books and this one has captivated my attention the most. You could really envision this playing out on the screen through the regular actors in the show. Would recommend to any X Files fan trying to keep magic of the TV show alive years later!

Fantastic book. You could close your eyes and see the cast from the TV programme.
The book takes you from the heart of Washington to the heart of the jungle. Its full of action I can't wait to read the next one.

Great Read.
Brilliant from start to finish with a real 'scientific mystery' feel to it. The pace of the story is great and the situation that confronts the M&S at the end is an clever and intelligent way to end the story. Some bits of dark humour in it to........well worth a read.

A fascinating case for our two heroes
I've read many of the X-files novels (those with original storylines, not based on TV episodes) and although not the best, this one does not dissappoint.A fascinating storyline takes M&S around the world in search of some gruesome truths.Anybody who likes the X-Files TV series should love this.
