This is the real deal. Dependable and showering sparks every time. Great handle for a solid purchase when striking, which is where most firesteels on the market are lacking. I plan to buy more so I can stash them in vehicles and all of my gear. I’ve gotten away from disposable lighters because I’ve found they can leak during storage. Firesteels are superior when you need something you can depend on 100%. Dragoon unlimited has done well on this one. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy any of their products.Update: I took a weeklong kayak trip down the Devils river in west TX over Thanksgiving. This is a remote and rugged expedition with no room for error or equipment failure. I normally use a standard Bic lighter to light my stove and fire, but conditions being what they were (everything was constantly wet) my lighter didn’t come through, as I had nothing dry enough to get it to spark. I remembered that I threw this fire steel in my “emergency backup” bag, and used it instead. Soaking wet, it got my stove to light immediately with a big shower of sparks. Soooo glad I had it. A lighter might be more convenient to slide in your pocket, but get several of these and always have one on you anytime you are in a demanding environment where equipment failure could be potentially life threatening.

Great product! Once I scraped off the protective coating I am getting huge sparks. This thing does not weigh anything. I ask the company about technique and if I should use a knife. They told me that would dull my knife and advised holding the striker at a 90 degree angle after removing the protective coating. Wow! Now it is shooting sparks that should light anything. I am excited about using this during a wet backpacking trip I have planned in Arkansas. The company even sent me a short video showing how to light a camp stove. What a great company. This small and simple tool gives me confidence that I'll be ready to survive extreme emergencies. For the price it's no-brainer insurance that I'll be able to cook, stay warm, and create light in the event of an extended power outage or accident. I'm keeping a ziploc bag of dryer lint with it that serves as immediate tinder - the sparks this tool throws off ignite that every time without fail. This brought back memories of my Boy Scout days and reminded me to "Be Prepared," especially now that I have a family to protect. I really appreciate how this company (Dragoon Unlimited) has a FB page with easy-to-follow advice that can help everyone survive unforeseen circumstances.

The best first starter kit on the market by far. If you are a camper or even an RV'er and do a bit of camping on the side, you will need this FS kit. Its not only just that piece of "needed" kit thats vital but its so easily stored and so well adapted to just about any type of camping environment that you will need it unreservedly!

The other 5 Star reviews are on target. Its a quality piece of gear and I could not find it for a better price. I gave it to my kids for their camp kit. It also makes a great thank you memento at the end of scouting projects. I would like to know more about Dragoon Unlimited. It seems like there is a great back-story with this company. Any more products coming soon?

This fire starter works great! It produces a very solid amount of sparks and is very easy to use. It even works well when wet, is light-weight and made of high quality materials so is great as an emergency/survival tool.

It's a beginners fero rod. Far too soft for heavy/extended use. Throws decent sparks but nothing mind blowing

This fire starter is light, reliable and easy to use. I used it to quickly start a backyard campfire last weekend in my firepit. It's also durable and great to pack for emergencies when in the outdoors.
