This book is perfect for someone just starting out learning how to play the kalimba. It makes learning how to play fun and easy.I know a good portion of the songs in the book which helps.I received this on Feb 29 and after reading the beginning of the book, I played my first song on the same day. It was Twinkle, twinkle, little star. After I played that for awhile and had gotten used to the kalimba I tried London bridge is falling down.This book is great for beginners of all ages and I can highly recommend.👍

Really easy to play the kalimba with this book. Uses numbers and notes. Great for beginners learning music notes.

Glad I purchased this as I cannot read music. This book does the songs by the number keys, for example |2 or 2|. Learned Amazing Grace flawlessly within 10 minutes and this was my first time playing the kambala instrument. Keeps me interested and makes it fun and easy to learn the songs. Great for a gift, great for self use, easy for adult or kids to read. Great purchase!

The good news is that if you like to play American folk songs from the ninteenth century, there's a lot to choose from here. The music, conveniently, is in the key signature of the kalimba, C major. Notes are large, and many songs are published with lyrics. Also, the book is bound with staples, so it is easy to get to lay flat.Finally, it does use standard musical notation rather than "kalimba script" which is a notation specifically developed for the kalimba. Anyone who has or wants to go on to get any musical training will appreciate this.The bad news is that there are tunes that are rhythmically good for Kalimba and ones that really are not. For example, the first two measures of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" happen to be well rendered on the kalimba; but that's not in here. "Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore" is included. That's a great recorder tune but the only reason to play it on a kalimba is to develop skills.

Great book

I actually do like this book in many ways. It’s very simple and should be easy for a child or adult to use in learning to play the kalimba, even if they have never played an instrument before. But the reason I gave it three stars is that it is for my seven-year-old grandson to go along with the kalimba I am giving him for Christmas. I am not sure what age this book is meant for because some of the songs they included are not really appropriate for a child. In some cases they put every single verse of the song which is fine except for their choice of songs like “House of the Rising Sun.” I don’t think my young grandson needs to read “the only thing a drunkard needs, is a suitcase and a trunk. The only time he is satisfied, is when he’s on a drunk!” There are several songs like that! I’m not sure what my daughter will think when she reads the words to some of them. I have a feeling she might decide to make printed copies of the more appropriate songs for his age rather than give him the whole book. It seems to me there should be a book specifically for children and another for adults. “House of the Rising Sun” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” don’t need to be in the same book!

Great easy to learn songbook ! The table of contents contains a lot of information such as holding and playing the Kalimba.It also has instructions for tuning and taking care of it.
