Wanted so much to love this
I love my Hillsound crampons, so I was really excited to get these. I appreciate that the rubber on this is very sturdy, so that they would be less likely to come off. Also, I like the length of the spikes, as I was hoping for something lower-profile. However, the rubber is so stiff and the shape so odd that I can't get these on when I need to without hurting my hands, and when I do put them on they are too tight. I even ordered a size up and they still just feel tight and weird. Sadness.

I'm really happy with my purchase
I'm really happy with my purchase. I bought these as many hikes out in Hawaii are often muddy, have numerous water crossings, and I am not the most coordinated person. I was advised that adding spikes may help me gain traction, thus making the hikes more enjoyable and reduce the number of times I end up on my rear end. I often lag way behind because I slip and fall, or I'm overly cautious, trying to avoid falling. Having spikes allowed me to keep up with my group and made the trip more enjoyable and reduced the number of times I toppled. This week, I did a hike that with spikes that I'd done a year ago without. Prior, I ended up on my butt almost every ten feet. This time, only once. The spikes definitely improved my traction and made the hike much more enjoyable overall. The hike is notorious for deep mud, multiple water crossings, and generally treacherous, footing. With spikes, I kept up fairly well (I'm a little slower than most, I've accepted this fact. No footwear or accessory is going to make me the ultimate hiker) and made my hike and the trip more enjoyable for everyone involved. Unfortunately, I fall between sizes. I need a small when it comes to trail runners and a medium for hiking boots. I'd have to buy two separate pairs to have an appropriate fit for both my trail runners and hiking shoes, so that's a little disappointing, hence the four-star review. But, overall, the product itself is great and I would buy again. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a little more traction on the trail.

Backcountry tested
Got exactly what I needed out of these. Did an early spring backcountry trip in CO, where the snow on the trails was deep but relatively packed (icy in the morning, a little slushy later in the day). These traction devices kept my feet stable with each step, both on ascents and descents; without them, my boots would've been sliding all all over the place and I probably would've spent a lot of time on my butt. The fit was perfect for both my hiking boots and hiking shoes (Large for men's size 12). They fit good and tight -- I wouldn't want them to be loose. NOTE: these ARE NOT intended to replace crampons -- if your excursion takes you on ice fields or glaciers with steeper grades, you'll need more than the FreeSteps.

Excellent!
So far so good! Great purchase! I have used the Freesteps 6 only a few days now, but outstanding in trail in the 6 miles or so of winter running/hiking/light climbing! They fit very well, I wear a size 10 Merrill shoe, and the marriage of the Freesteps 6 size Large fit perfectly. Initially I was concerned about the weight, and if the spikes would collect snow, mud and rocks but there was no issue. They maintain their position on my foot and and maintain firm grip. A+ recommendation!

Sizing
Pro - They seem very durable. Con - Difficult to get on, and the sizing chart is off. Based on the shoe/boot size chart provided, I bought a large for men's size 11. The L was difficult to get on my shoe and pre-stressed my foot (not good). To get the L on my boot, I needed a pry bar. I switched to XL and though they are still difficult to get on, the size feels right.

These are the best investment I've made for hiking while living in Hawaii
These are the best investment I've made for hiking while living in Hawaii! They are perfect in mud, slick trails and and slippery up hill and down hill. I initially thought I needed a medium (I wear women's 10-11). After wearing them on several hikes they tend to slide from one side on my shoes so I already ordered another pair in small. The shoes you wear can vary for what size you need. But overall, great investment and having an extra pair won't be a bad thing either!

Flat Out Works
Wore these for many miles in Yellowstone recently, and they were like walking on firm ground. Paired to my Keen Durand Boots, even on dicey areas and short distances across frozen asphalt, no bent spikes or damage. I walk to the outside of my foot, and both devices tend to push toward the outside of the boot, but it's not bad enough to compromise traction.I loved these.

These are definitely helpful for walking on slightly slippery areas ...
These are definitely helpful for walking on slightly slippery areas, that are fairly flat. These are not heavy duty though, so keep that in mind. I have used these hiking on winter trails, and while they did the trick, anything other than a slightly inclined trail, these wouldn't be much help on.

Excellent!
Heavy duty. Am able to walk on thick ice without any problem- brilliant for Aberdeenshire winter weather.

Wear to begin (if you want traction) :-)
Easy to put on or take off. Deep tread works well on full ice.Sizing is a real problem. The only way I can explain it is trial and error, until you find a fit. Good luck if you want for several different shoes or boots. But the are solid and are true traction aids.

Icy sidewalks will never be an issue
These things are easy to put on your boots, they are easy to adjust and you will walk on ice like it is pure dry concrete. I go by others like a rocket when they are trying to get a grip on icy sidewalks. Best traction device I ever owned. However, when you get inside a building, you'll need to take them off. If you are walking on a nice floor with no carpet, you will slip as if, how ironic, you were walking on thin ice with only your business shoes on.5 stars because they are easy to put on and easy to take off, and when walking on ice, they offer perfect traction. Very, very happy with this purchase.

A must have for a person and their dog + Canadian winter
Well, I have actually bought a few of these traction device over the past few years. This one is probably my favourite so far. I have to walk my dog daily and we all know roads and sidewalks gets really icy here in Canada.I've gotten the longer spike ones in the past, and they are kind of hard to walk on in areas where ice or snow isn't as thick. So I started to look for an-all-in-one solution that would make it comfortable to walk on areas without ice patches and areas with ice patches. These are perfect for the job. when I enter areas without snow/ice, they are still pretty alright to walk on without me feeling awkward. In areas with ice, they seem to work just as well as my longer spike traction devices. They are are also pretty light, which is a welcome bonus (managed to test this purchase out from the freak snow storm Calgary just had).I haven't wore them for long though so I'm unsure of its durability at the moment.I definitely recommend these at the moment though! I bought the small, and it fits snug on size 8 winter boots.

Fit is Not Even Close
I ordered these in large following the sizing chart. Not even close to fitting my size 9.5 Merrelll hiking shoes. I re ordered in XL and they fit great. Thanks to Amazon for free returns and prompt refundsFunctionality: Love them. No slipping. They don't seem to grab on anything. They do give you confidence on ice. They have been getting lots of use. I would never use them to walk on an icy sidewalk. I think the concrete would wear them out quickly.Would have given them 5 stars if the fit wasn't so far off. If you order, order a size up !

Not liking it
Ordered for the size of boot I wear by the guide given. Found them to tight for my boots. So not using them at all. Disapo9nted.

Excellent Footwear Addition for Winter Ice Treks
After observing other trail trekkers using these on icy nature trails, I purchased these and they are superb in providing grip on sheer ice trails, pavement.Tip: if in doubt of size to order, order the larger size - when added to footwear, it is designed to be a snug fit around the shoe or boot.

As a dog walker I need to be able to walk at any time, any where. Here in Montreal we often have Ice on the sidewalk and park and without this it could be dangerous. What I like about the product is that you can put them in your bag and put them on whenever you need too

comfortable
went for a run today with these and they didn't move and I could really feel them. The traction is excellent on hard surfaces.

Beware random shipping charges
Excellent traction on ice and they don't come off easily during use. Free shipping was an attraction but when I went to order a second set an excessive shipping was added which made then uneconomical.

Déception
Ils sont excellents sur la glace, mais après un mois d’utilisations, la bande de caoutchouc qui retiens les chaînes est presque fendue.
