Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 570S (Thunderbolt 3)

Excellent build quality and performance. Used correctly with Mac in clamshell mode and thunderbolt 3 cable to Sonnet puck and display's connected to puck has showed significant boost in graphic performance. Worth it for the money in terms of portability. Performance boost greatly reduced when Mac not used in clam shell mode or when puck connected Mac and displays also connected to Mac directly. Puck under heavy load for games is audible but less then when Mac under full load and it's fan's going full blast. Would mitigate by getting longer active thunderbolt 3 cables to place device further away from you. Also unit cools by pulling air in from top and blowing hot air out from bottom so can be annoying if next to you, having hot air blown on your hands. Can confirm that caldigit cables work well. Have had no crashes and using latest Mojave release as of this writing 10.14.6. Have tested with several games and work's well. EGPU support though dependent on whether game supports EGPU support.

Got this so I can do 4K 3D editing on a Macbook Air, it works very well for occasional use that I do. If your doing a lot of high end video editing and graphics you might want something more powerful. Yes this unit is fairly portable but still comes with a large external power supply. Also consider getting a longer thunderbolt cable as the supplied one is very short.

So I’ve had two of these. They both failed. Utterly died - with no explanation why. They replaced unit one and the second unit died within seven months. They will not replace the second unit as it’s beyond two years from the original purchase. It’s a piece of Expensive junk. Thanks Sonnet for pretending to have good customer service. You’re a disappointment just as much as the device is.Do not buy this or similar products from sonnet. You will be disappointed.No feed back on original failure AND Sonnet are not interested in replacing or refunding the second unit.STAY AWAY. SONNET SUCKS.

My LG ultrawide monitor was not on the Apple's supported list. So my screen would black out once in a while or worse yet the screen would become corrupted. After buying this and plugging it in my screen is now very stable and got the benefit of an eGPU setup. Totally worth it.

The unit is DOA, wont power up and that may be due to the fact the power connector literally FALLS OUT of the unit This will be returned tomorrow, as it seems more like a child's school project level of craftsmanship than anything that is worth using.I tried calling Customer Support, which purports to be open until 4pm Pacific Time, and at 2pm the answering system states we are not available, check our website, which has little to no useful information ...Chalk this up to a good idea, poorly executed or supported - RETURNED

Great plug and play solution for struggling MacBook Pro using Mojave. If you edit 4K video using a 2018 MacBook Pro the struggle will be unbearable without an external GPU.

This worked great. I was able to run games on my Razer blade stealth with no problems. Unit is quiet and my laptop stays cool during gameplay.

Excelent product. Video export reduced 50% of time on Screenflow
